I wonder if Michael Watson or Gerald McClellan would have preferred an earlier stoppage in their fights. Both had scored a knock-down and Watson had won every round too. Its when the fatigue sets in that a fighter is vulnerable. George did an amazing job last night and he has come out of this a Hero. No matter what happens regarding a rematch he has proved that he deserves to be fighting at the highest level. Had there been more time in round one he could well have finished Froch off then, he had Froch hurt on a few occasions and I feel had he had a little more experiance he would have jumped in and won the fight by stoppage. Froch should have had a point taken off him for all the tactics he used but I don't think that it would have made a huge difference to the ending. George had 6 rounds to get Froch out of there and had started to tire from round 7, no matter what anybody thinks of Froch he would have been throwing hurtful punches until the end, my opinion is that GG would of been stopped, if not when he did then maybe a few seconds later or maybe a round later? A hell of a lot of people called the fight correctly including a lot of you on here - George to take early rounds with Froch stoping him in the latter rounds (7 - 9 was punted a lot) this is exactly what happened except George showed Carl's limitations as a Boxer AS HE SAID HE WOULD.

I know what your saying taffy but there is no comparisons to be made there...McClellan was blinking profusely, hurt on several occasions and giving massive distress signals before it was stopped. Watson was floored very heavy and had to be almost carried back to the corner (lucky for Nathan he was okay...but I was worried at how Nathan looked at the end of the 3rd...as that's what I was reminded off)

Matt macklin was hurt on several occasions and gassing hard vs Moore...but was ahead in the fight...how would he have felt had the fight been stopped before the conclusive ko.

George was tiring, majorly distressed? Debatable. He was blocking and throwing.


Anyway to answer your question. Spencer Oliver recently said that if somehow the bbboc would licence him and he knew one punch would end his life....he would still box.

Regardless of what I think about the stoppage , only a British referee would have stopped it when he did. Does that mean our referees are right or wrong.
I think Froch would have put him down within a couple of punches but maybe taking a knee would have been enough for a temporary recovery. At the end of day Groves was knackered and about to be stopped.

interesting...saying things and doing them 2 different things tho. Where did you see or hear that mate?

also, quite a lot seems to have been made of the fact that Watson hit his head off the bottom rope which jarred his skull. I was just thinking about that the other week and wondering if that's not still a factor and what you could do to prevent a similar thing happening again.
