Also to add - Groves didn't throw a punch for the last 30 seconds before the stoppage, apart from two wide swinging shots(massively disorientated shots) once Froch had caught him on the ropes - in that time, Froch threw over 30 punches, 10+ landed on Groves's head.

Re: Froch - 'I don't have to give anybody a rematch'
I think George was spot on in his post fight assessment that his "chinny" image and Carl,s "warrior" image had something to do with refs stoppage
If Enzo Maccarinnelli for instance was being hit with the shots that Froch was,im pretty certain Foster would have stepped in before the 9th round even if it was a world title bout
Its just that Froch has proven his durability before and Howard didnt wait to find out how Groves,s stood up to the test

If you watch the fight back though, Groves was gone. From round 7 onward, Froch was hurting him. Yes, Froch took some lightweight shots in return but Groves didn't throw a single shot for the last 30 seconds before the stoppage. He was hurt, running and practically out on his feet.

It's not the ratings, it's his professional record. You might think he's the champion, but guess what? the IBF and WBA don't think he is.Groove Armada wrote:Next you will tell me boxrec ratings are legit?

GG PEOPLES CHAMPION!
Re: Froch - 'I don't have to give anybody a rematch'
so much madness on here. everyone knew groves was faster and would get off to a fast start. we werent expecting froch to ship so much punishment from groves, but we all knew that come the championship rounds groves would be in trouble. fast fighters slow down and the rugged fighters can bring their strenghts into play. groves shot his wad early and froch turned into pacman and started to eat him up. groves will learn that a world title lasts twelve rounds, and that froch , as a veteran with deep championship experience, will keep coming on even after taking a pounding. well done froch

I agree Jim. I think Froch has suffered as a result of the stoppage. If the ref had let it go on, I'm sure Froch would have stopped him, but Carl didn't get the chance.jimcook wrote:so much madness on here. everyone knew groves was faster and would get off to a fast start. we werent expecting froch to ship so much punishment from groves, but we all knew that come the championship rounds groves would be in trouble. fast fighters slow down and the rugged fighters can bring their strenghts into play. groves shot his wad early and froch turned into pacman and started to eat him up. groves will learn that a world title lasts twelve rounds, and that froch , as a veteran with deep championship experience, will keep coming on even after taking a pounding. well done froch
Re: Froch - 'I don't have to give anybody a rematch'
Was listening to TalksSport earlier whilst driving back from Manchester. Froch was quoted as saying he's quite happy to do the rematch and thinks Groves has earned it. Slight u-turn from yesterday but I suspect he's changed in light of the negative reaction he's had. Obviously still doesn't think he lost, or was losing the fight and thinks the "right man won".
Won't comment on the fight until I've watched it but from where I was sitting (decent seat) it's [the stoppage] easily the worst thing I've ever seen in over 20 years+ of watching live boxing. Just ridiculous. He got it wrong.

Get some perspective, ffs. Groves knocked him over, but he couldn't knock Froch out, he's too hard. Groves shots in seven and eight were bouncing off.Groove Armada wrote:He is number 1.damianhucker1 wrote:End of the day, regardless of if the stoppage was premature, its foolish to call groves number 1 in britain , he lost the fight, and although it was premature he was getting stopped in another round or so, he had done fantastically well and went up in my estimations a long way last night, but he was unravelling, and in that situation , Froch knows how to finish, i dont think groves was going to win, and even on points i think froch would have got it if he hadnt stopped it, 2 judges only had groves up by 1 with 4 to go, my own score had groves up by 3 and i still wasnt counting out a froch points win. you have to prove yourself as number 1 and while groves did well, hes not proved that at all yet.
Is Jorge Castro better than John David Jackson because he won?
Bullshit stoppage AND GG will knocks his out next time, unless CARL bottles it.
It was an early stoppage, but Groves was getting pasted quite badly.

I agree. People are making out like it's the worst decision in boxing history. It's not Chavez-Whitaker. The fight was stopped early, unjustly in my opinion, but Groves was being dominated when that happened.Dan Dares wrote:Get some perspective, ffs. Live, yeah. I've seen plenty of boxing on TV (I'm 41) and loads of weird/bizarre/corrupt stuff but that's easily the worst.Dan Dares wrote:The worst thing you've seen in 20 years of boxing? Re-Watched it earlier. Stoppage was still premature, but less scandalous than I thought it was last night.
There is no way Froch won't take a rematch at this stage of his career, its worth too much.

I would have thought its rematch or retirement. Like I say though there is no way that a rematch doesn't happen.ThereByTheGrace wrote:If he doesn't take a rematch, where would he go next? I get the feeling Froch is not keen on it. If he fails to give Groves an immediate rematch I will complety reassess my opinion of him.
Good to see you still posting ALI

Why would he fight Degale? That fight just doesn't make sense on any level.WildWaylon wrote:Degale? Worst stoppage in 20 years? You must have only been to one show for that to make any sense. There are worse decisions every single weekend.Dan Dares wrote:The worst thing you've seen in 20 years of boxing? Absolute nonsense. It was an appalling stoppage.
Al Bernstein says it was the worst he's EVER seen. I think thst's overstating it but at this level of boxing it was just terrible. Still contend it's the worst I've ever seen live.

Re: Froch - 'I don't have to give anybody a rematch'
Groves lost, and in my view, it was Froch that was robbed by the ref, of a clear, come from behind stoppage which would cement his legacy still further. It was, however, now I've seen it, an awful stoppage; Groves has a right to feel hard done by. I don't think Froch does have to give him a rematch, but I think he will if he stays active, for two reasons. 1) the money - it will be even bigger next time round, probably the biggest fight for him by some way, and 2) his pride. So many people are saying Groves schooled him that he'll want to underline his win. I will pay to see it next time; Groves rose a lot in my estimation, and I can foresee that he may improve and Froch may slip in the interim time. That said, whilst Froch is not going to become a better fighter, I can see that he might come in with a different game plan.
