To rule the division, Groves would have to beat Andre Ward. Do you think he will?ThereByTheGrace wrote:I think Groves will win by KO the next time. That fight will change Froch in the ring forever.
Froch may retire, and if he does I wish him all the best. Groves will rule the division in time
What would be the outcome of a Froch-Groves rematch?

He will have a better chance than Froch did, he's quicker and can obviously dig.keithmoonhangover wrote:To rule the division, Groves would have to beat Andre Ward. I think Ward may move up in weight, but in 2-3-4 years, Groves will mature and get better and better.

He won't get past Froch in a rematch IMO, maybe I'm wrong, we'll find out in a fewof months.ThereByTheGrace wrote:He will have a better chance than Froch did, he's quicker and can obviously dig.keithmoonhangover wrote:To rule the division, Groves would have to beat Andre Ward. Hope the rematch happens Keith, if not it'll be disappointing.

Re: What would be the outcome of a Froch-Groves rematch?
I can't see any reason why. Froch knows he can win, because he's convinced the fight would have been over in 10 more seconds. Groves will be sure he can because he was winning the fight. It's an easy match to make. It's still a grudge match and it's big news in the media today. I can see it at the 02 in London.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Hope the rematch happens Keith, if not it'll be disappointing.

I have never seen Froch so badly beaten, and he has been with a lot of quality fighters. Groves can outbox him and can hit harder as well. The next time I think he will stop him, but I would love to see it, could be another epic.keithmoonhangover wrote:I can't see any reason why. Did you see Froch change his approach later in fight? He started waiting for Grover to throw first and then lauching an attack on the back of it.ThereByTheGrace wrote:I have never seen Froch so badly beaten, and he has been with a lot of quality fighters. Re: What would be the outcome of a Froch-Groves rematch?
He was too keen at the start of the fight to throw his jab was Froch, he kept missing and Groves would just keep countering him with the right. I think McCracken mentioned it inbetween rounds also to stop throwing the jab first.
Froch made it more of a brawl and a shootout once Groves started to tire. If Groves had got on his bike and moved in the last 3 rounds no one would have criticised him.
Froch looked clueless in there, until the pace slowed down.

Agree to disagree and all that, but I saw Froch change his approach to countering and when he did, he won the fight.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Froch looked clueless in there, until the pace slowed down.

You can talk about Groves outskilling Froch all you want but it counts for nothing if he can't finish the fight.
Next time, Froch stoppage, around the same point.

So the poll is in then.
Froch by KO.
Froch by KO.
Re: What would be the outcome of a Froch-Groves rematch?
Froch would win mid to late rounds. The knockdown effected him and took several rounds to shake off. Groves would need to finish inside 1st 4 rounds to win for me. He hardly outboxed Froch. I had him 3 points up even with the knockdown. He tired badly, he didn't want to get in a war but ultimately was dragged into one. It happens quicker next time as long as Froch avoids being knocked down. He was starting to walk groves down as his shots were starting to lose power

Why should he retire?
Re: What would be the outcome of a Froch-Groves rematch?
He was noticeably slower on Saturday, even more than usual, took numerous heavy shots that buzzed him and was dropped harder than he has ever been before. Before the fight, he was talking about a late 2015 retirement, now he thinks he has 2 fights left in him, which would take him to the end of next year. After numerous wars and heavy punches taken and with plenty of money in the bank and well invested, plus a beautiful wife and two kids, why does he need to continue fighting?SNG wrote:Why should he retire?

To answer the question on his behalf, he does it more because he enjoys it vs the money. That's the impression I get when I listen to him.expe wrote:He was noticeably slower on Saturday, even more than usual, took numerous heavy shots that buzzed him and was dropped harder than he has ever been before. Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
Sorry yet another Froch, Groves post.
It seems to me that Froch has no choice but to fight Groves again, he will be haunted by questions that he was lucky, was losing and avoided a rematch if he doesn't.
I'm not convinced the fight will come off, Groves has no belt, the record books show a Froch win and there are bigger and more lucrative international fights he could have.
So if the rematch never materialises how much of effect would it have on Frochs credibility and overall legacy?

He won't have liked being booed on his exit
I think he may want to put it right

Re: Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
Are there really more lucrative fights? Possibly Golovkin but after being almost sparked by Groves will Froch want any of that?
Groves is the logical option, it's much bigger money than a Ward rematch. Nobody who doesn't have the surname Froch wants to see that.
I think it will have to happen, if Froch doesn't retire, which I think he should.

Nobody with the surname Froch has EVER wanted the Ward rematch. Groves is the easiest lucrative option. Ward would beat him much easier and, as said, going on Saturday night GGG would batter him. There is only so much one man can take.MarkMcBurney wrote:Are there really more lucrative fights? Possibly Golovkin but after being almost sparked by Groves will Froch want any of that?

Re: Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
Not quite the same but there were calls for Lennox Lewis to give Vitali a rematch after being behind on the scorecards when the cut eye stopped it. Lewis also agreed to a rematch and then retired and in all honesty it hasn't really affected Lewis's career, although of course he wasn't getting beaten so convincingly as Froch
Re: Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
The fans were booing the decision it wasn't till froch got on the mic & said it was a good stoppage the crowd turned on him.
End of the day the stoppage was abit early but George did look on a hiding to nothing.paul smith complained when he was stopped, it's natural.
After Xmas people would have forgot & groves will have to climb the ranks again

Re: Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
I think he can afford not to; Calzaghe avoided everyone for his whole career and still retired a wealthy and happy man. That said, I don't think he WILL avoid the rematch; it would be out of character.

Re: Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
When you assess Carl Froch in the round as a professional fighter it is absolutely obvious that he will face Groves in his next fight. I would bet my life on it.
Re: Can Froch afford not to give Groves a rematch?
Carl will want to do it again. He saw close & personal his opponent folding in front of him, what the crowd and TV audience couldn't. Whilst he understands Howard Foster's decision, he feels cheated of the grandstand finish after a torrid first half.
Groves will have high expectations on his shoulders in the rematch. Which I think he will handle to be honest as he took the big fight in his stride on Saturday and was very cool and composed. I was also impressed with his resilience and toughness. He just seemed to fatigue though.
Carl won't be lackadaisical next time. Holding court in his dressing room as celebs drop in the shake his hand. He will be on it properly, rather than going through the motions.
Groves shall know not to expend as much energy in the first half, and keep a little back for his legs in the second half.
I think it will be less gung ho and more tactical in the rematch. Very intriguing.
