Was Froch finished in R1 if Groves had 30 secs longer?
Was Froch finished in R1 if Groves had 30 secs longer?
Had George had an extra 30 seconds left of round 1 I believe Froch would have been knocked out cold. He was fortunate it happened in the dying seconds. Knowing that Froch finishes well is it a good game plan to jump on him early in future if you know you have the KO power?

Impossible to say.
Just like it's impossible to say if Froch would've stopped Groves if Foster didn't intervene.
One thing I will say though is that I'd much rather be in Groves' position in round one then Froch's in round nine if there was 30seconds left in the round.

Yep - agree all round.Chris W 1982 wrote:Impossible to say.

I disagree. After the knockdown, Groves proceeded to hit Froch with another 2 heavy right hands and they just bounced off of Froch's jaw. I really dont know what he's made of to be honest.TopGun wrote:Had George had an extra 30 seconds left of round 1 I believe Froch would have been knocked out cold. Hmm. Probably best to wait for a better sample before reading too much into these results.
Re: Was Froch finished in R1 if Groves had 30 secs longer?
It's hypothetical, but I say possibly. Froch was buzzed and didn't look good, but as someone else said, it wasn't like he didn't take any more punches. He tooks a couple more very heavy digs and stood up to it. 30 seconds more, who knows?
Those saying they'd rather be in Froch's position than Groves? I don't think so. I'd rather be down in Round 1 caught cold but still have all my stamina and strength to dig into, than be exhausted in Round 9 on the end of a Froch barrage.

It was me who said it.
Froch was floored and absolutely buzzed. Groves was neither of these things.

He was slightly square on and although up quickly, his legs did a bit of a dance and he was on the ropes after straightening up i.e. I think he got up far too quickly. Definitely hurt him though.

Groves didn't throw a punch in the 30 seconds before the stoppage while Froch threw over 30 shots, 10 landing on Groves head, his legs were all over the place as he turned away and fell into the ref - but he wasn't buzzed??Chris W 1982 wrote:It was me who said it.

Clearly hurt him. Not enough though.
As Colombo says, about five seconds after the count ends he gets hit with two big shots again, which just bounced off his nut. Its almost as if Froch decided to adjust his chin to deal with Groves power!
Just watched GG on sky sports news. Its embarrassing hearing people say its a travesty that Froch has the win/Groves the loss on his record. The stoppage was premature but its not as if it was a terrible points decision, where Groves actually won the fight. It was round 9. It was scheduled for 12. What next? Vitali beat Lewis...embarrassing.
Groves didnt win the fight, I find it hard that people cannot understand this.
Lets hope the rematch happens.

Groves should've committed himself more every time he had Froch hurt, but he said himself in the post fight interview that he didn't want to rush in and go for the KO as he respected Carl's chin too much, which is why for the most part he didn't follow up any of the times he had Froch hurt and why he was never going to stop Carl.

So Groves was under attack for 30 seconds without throwing a punch? Do you know how long 30 seconds is? It's an eternity in fighting terms. His legs weren't all over the place and he never fell into the referee.ScottDetonator wrote:Groves didn't throw a punch in the 30 seconds before the stoppage while Froch threw over 30 shots, 10 landing on Groves head, his legs were all over the place as he turned away and fell into the ref - but he wasn't buzzed??Chris W 1982 wrote:It was me who said it.

The fact Groves didn't go down was what counted against him. Had he gone down, then he would have had a count and a respite - just because he didn't go down, does not mean he wasn't in trouble.Chris W 1982 wrote:It was me who said it.

Carl recovered very quickly from the knockdown, considering what a monster shot it was, and his legs were steady under him after that initial dance.
I remember that Frank Bruno, every single time he was stopped, was stopped on his feet, some fighters don't go down when they are hurt , it's even more dangerous as it means they can take an extra 5-6 shots when they are not able to defend themselves.

Perhaps you should actually go back and watch the fight then because Groves didn't throw a punch back as I have all ready stated.Chris W 1982 wrote:So Groves was under attack for 30 seconds without throwing a punch? Berbick wasn't under sustained attack for 30 seconds without throwing back.

From 1.56 to 1.26 the time of the stoppage Groves threw 5 punches which all missed.Chris W 1982 wrote:So Groves was under attack for 30 seconds without throwing a punch? Start the clock from 1.53/54 and George only throws 2 from the ropes that were totally wide and desperation shots. Almost 30 seconds, call it 25 but it still remains that he didn't/couldn't throw back and was badly hurt.

He should not have let him off the hook like that.

it ridiculous how hard froch is really .. i said yes because even his legs looked unsteady however we will never know just like the endingcolumbo wrote:I disagree. I can't remember Bruno complaining much each time to be honest, the opposite of Grovesjamesmcdonnell wrote:
