Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Just noticed something after being pointed to it on Twitter.
Alexander was about to quit on his stool, his corner was going to tell the ref and then they noticed Purdy was doing the same so his team went quiet and let it happen. So it looks anyway.

Reckon you're right. Bizzare!
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Good spot - makes you think he has quit before he will quit again
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Lad on Twitter spotted it. I hope Purdy never sees this, would be the end of him and barker
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
that is just unreal, he must of been injured..
purdy could of been the worst world champion in the history of the sport
kell brook would of been delighted to fight purdy for a world title
that was a great spot

He did both his hands I think they said early in the fight and I am presuming the adrenaline will have started to wear off and pain started.
Bad thing is Purdy lost the title shot due to not making weight but would have been an amazing victory leading to an actual title shot at alexander

Can't see the clip as in work, but I'm surprised Sky didn't go to the adverts at the time
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Purdy would not have been champion, but Alexander would have lost the belt wouldn't he?bigB wrote:He did both his hands I think they said early in the fight and I am presuming the adrenaline will have started to wear off and pain started.

I'd have though they would have made Purdy vs the mandatory (Brook)

I'm happy it didnt happen to be honest. Brook would of had a right soft touch in Purdy.DMA1987 wrote:Purdy would not have been champion, but Alexander would have lost the belt wouldn't he?bigB wrote:He did both his hands I think they said early in the fight and I am presuming the adrenaline will have started to wear off and pain started.

it is a good spot. I'd probably have spotted it if I'd watched the actual fight. Surprised that's taken 2 months or whatever to filter through on boxrec.
Good awareness by Alexander's cornerman.

Alexander tells his corner they've stopped. You can see barker come out the corner as purdy came back & wave it Alexander saw it from his stool
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
?
"They stopped it" is what he said.
In reference to Purdy's corner.

Alexander says "they've stopped it" - nothing to suggest his corner were pulling him out whatsoevern1ebf wrote:it is a good spot. I'd probably have spotted it if I'd watched the actual fight

Alexander says they stopped it he didn't look like he was gonna quit to me
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Yeah I think you are right.
Saw a bloke put it on twitter, watched it and saw what I wanted to see I think. Just re-watched it and it looks like he said 'they' before stopped it.

I thought I heard Alexander say "stop it!"...... at which point his trainer calls the Ref over. Then he says "hold up..." or something. Why did DA's trainer call out to the Ref then?
It makes no sense whatsoever because his face wasn't in distress, Purdy wasn't throwing punches and Alexander seemed to be peppering him at will (although I must say that's all it looked like, peppering).
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Yeah just watched it again. Alexander definitely wasn't quitting. He said "they"

While it wasn't true, it does remind me of the 'Thrilla in Manila' when Ali went back to the corner at the end of the 14th and told the corner to cut his gloves off, but Eddie Futch was pulling Frazier out and the message didn't get to the Frazier corner quick enough that Ali was about to retire himself.

Ive just watched that about 9 or 10 times, and i dont think its that clear that he said "they" and then why would the corner call the ref ????? hmmmmmm....
Re: Did anyone notice at the time - Purdy v Alexander.
Even if it was the case though it was because he'd broken his hand/s. It wasnt because he couldnt handle Purdy. He'd already proceeded to beat him up for the duration of the fight.damianhucker1 wrote:Ive just watched that about 9 or 10 times, and i dont think its that clear that he said "they" and then why would the corner call the ref ????? hmmmmmm....
