Scott Quigg - Who Next? - Kiko? Darchinyan?

Post by danamba7 »

As we all know, we can't read much into Quigg's performance on Saturday night due to the level of opposition. I do however think he is talented and can go on to prove he's top 5 SBW in the world.

With the Frampton fight looking more unlikely by the day, who do you think Quigg's ideal opponent would be? And do others agree that he could be competitive with anyone in the division bar Rigondeaux?

I'd say he's a top 5 super-bantamweight now in terms of ability. It's all about how he fares against the other top guys in the division though ie Rigondeaux *He'd lose but no disgrace*, Martinez, Frampton, etc.

I get the feeling Eddie wants to make the Martinez fight.

I think that's a very dangerous fight for Quigg. I'm not sure if Quigg is as good boxing on the backfoot as Frampton is and if stays in the pocket with Martinez with that suspect chin, I think he could be in trouble. I'd like to see it though.

aye. i really think Quigg would need to get Kiko on the back foot- not an easy thing by any means- and keep him there for the majority of the fight. the minute Quigg starts getting backed up, I wouldn't say he's fvcked, necessarily, but I struggle to see him winning that way.

it *would* however be very interesting if Quigg's power managed to get Kiko's respect early doors. again, if not, i think he'd just end up getting walked down, muscled and eventually chased around (and possibly out of) the ring.

Got an image of him trying to get away from Kiko and tagging Eddie to take his place :OhYes:

I think they have to go after Kiko Martinez based on the fact that's who Frampton wants to fight next. If Scott Quigg beats Kiko then he holds the WBA and IBF belts then surely Frampton needs to fight Quigg and I would be a very interested spectator. :TU:

Also Matchroom have a love interest with the IBF so it makes perfect sense - I think Quigg would outbox Martinez and eventually stop him late on.

Totally agree with that assessment :TU: - Not sure how Quigg would handle such a pressure fighter like Kiko

if i was designing a strategy i would try to take advantage of Kiko's possible slow-starting, try and unload to his body early doors, get on top and try like fvck to stay there. not a man you want to have chasing you down and trying to beat off the back foot, unless you're a real natural slickster.

Possible slow start? Did you see him against Romero?! He went at him like a bull from the opening bell! He didnt give Romero time to breathe at all and Romero whilst not an overall better fighter than Quigg IMO is probably a better "back foot" boxer.

Yeah exactly, Romero didn't have the power to keep Kiko off, and he just kept coming forward offloading and pressurizing Romero from the get go who had no answer to it..Very nearly got him out of there in Round 1

That could of been the case to be fair. I cant remember their fights very well. The whole styles make fights phrase is very fitting here though I think. Quigg beat Munroe and yet Munroe beat Martinez so Quigg should beat Martinez. As we all know, it doesnt really work like that. Munroe for his flaws is a tough SOB so could weather Martinez's assaults. I'm not sure Quigg can.

Would be a very intriguing fight though! Obviously Quigg works very well to the body so that could play a big factor aswell.

Yeah Quigg is a good body puncher and if he can slow Kiko down and make him respect his power, he is the better 'boxer' of the 2, whether he's the better 'fighter' i'm not so sure and would depend on the 'power' aspect for me

Personally I think to beat Martinez you have to one have power which Quigg does but as if not more importantly have a good chin because he's gonna keep coming and even Frampton who can whack took 9 rounds to get him out of there and had to take a fair few himself in the process.

Took Dunne out in the first as well. Can't see the fight happening though, Frampton's mandatory now and Martinez or Mathebula will have to fight him.

Would really hurt Frampton if Kiko took a voluntary after the Mathebula fight and it was Quigg. If Quigg got his hands on the IBF belt with Frampton mandatory, Frampton would be sick because he would lose money because I could see it going to purse bids.

I don't think they would let it go to purse bids.

Thing is I just can not see Frampton's team accepting the fight on Matchroom's terms. Matchroom unfortunately hold the aces at the mo, they have a World title (regardless of what you think of it) the potential of Sky PPV and Quigg from Manchester where an enormous arena is. So basically the fight on Sky PPV at the Manchester arena generates a hell of a lot more money than on allegedly at the Odyssey arena.

In my opinion we are just going to see Frampton's team offering the fight at a certain amount. Quigg's team saying no, but here is our much larger offer for you to take the fight. And Frampton's team turning it down because they don't want one of their if not their number 1 marquee fighter fighting on a rival promoters show.

Quigg isn't even world class, if he is he's very fringe. Darchiynan walks through him, as does Martinez, frampton etc. Please don't even mention his name in the same sentence as rigos!

Can't agree with that apart from the Rigondeaux bit. I think Quigg v Frampton is 50/50. I may be wrong but I like to have faith in a fighter and enjoy their success rather than knock them down before they have chance to prove otherwise. I think Kiko gives him problems but he's capable of out boxing and even stopping him.

I agree, and it's better for people to support fighters no matter what and be loyal to them but quigg shouldn't even be a world champ, he hasn't fought anyone to get the title, defends against guys who aren't even top 100, and yet he is a so called world champ when there are many more deserving fighters who don't get no where near the exposure of title opportunities. Not his fault I guess but at the same time I'm just stating an opinion that he isn't world class he's fringe at best. And I
Guess the next year will tell
