helvetes faen, give Froch his dues

Post by forcefraser »

I have read some crap on here in the aftermath of what was a thrilling fight.

Groves was a revelation, he was clearly the superior boxer in terms of skill, speed and perhaps power. He was ahead at the time of the stoppage, no doubt about that.

The fight was also stopped too early but, and it is a big but, Froch would have stopped him in the 9th anyway. I have little doubt about that.

What gets me is that Froch is booed from the ring and people are acting like he actually lost the fight. Nonsense. The guy was battered from pillar to post and took some incredible shots. Apart from the knockdown, he never looked in any serious trouble.

He fought on and never gave up, which is the sign of a true fighting man. He is the one who has every right to feel aggrieved, as he was robbed of the opportunity of finishing the job off in a satisfactory manner.

He would have been heralded to the rafters if the ref let it go on and he stopped Groves on his own accord. He never got the chance.

As much credit as groves deserves, Froch deserves more. He toughed it out and got his man. The guy does not deserve the majority of the crap he is getting. True warrior.

Let me ask you a few questions GA....

If the fight had gone the exact opposite, Groves down in the first round, Froch winning the fight and then Groves coming back and landing the exact same punches as Froch did in the last round, with the ref stopping the fight at the same second, with Groves landing the punches on Froch.....

Would you be saying all of the above about Groves? Would you be complaining about the stoppage if it was Froch that was stopped?

I think it is down to the fact Froch gave so much crap to Groves in the build up when Groves had not said or done anything wrong. Also the fact Froch was giving it the big one about how great he is and was schooled for 8 rounds is why he got booed.

I still think Groves was going to win the fight but hey, we will never know. We can only hope for the rematch.

I believe there would be even more outcry if the roles were reversed and it was Groves who came back to win in the 9th.

I tend to have sympathy with Froch. Let's not forget that Howard Foster also denied Carl the chance of an unbelievable non-controversial comeback win and the credit that he would have gotten from that.

Carl's post fight interview was a bit cringeworthy and I'm sure his words were in part due to the adrenalin that was pumping through him at the time, but I'm not sure he said anything that bad beforehand...at least I never heard him!

Unfortunately for him, he now finds himself playing the role of the bad guy to George's 'hard done by' guy all down to the fact that the referee was a bit over zealous in stopping the fight. Hardly Carl's fault.

There's no doubt George's stock rose massively on Saturday night and he's sure to go onto bigger and better things but I still admire Carl Froch and everything he's done and feel that a lot of the stick he's getting is a bit unfair.

the rematch will certainly be easier for froch. he knows what groves brings to the table now, and will certainly not eat as many right hands next time . he will also know that hes got the better chin, and stamina. groves will know that he cannot go off at 100 mph and last the twelve effectively.

I agree with everything you said except it being unfortunate that Carl now (wrongly in my opinion) finds himself playing the role of the bad guy. Carl still has his fans (me included), but there are some people that will buy a ticket or PPV just to watch him lose. Pre-ban Ali and Chris Eubank and many others made plenty of money playing that role. The Froch-Groves rematch sells itself.

There is nothing Froch can do to defend against Groves.. The 2nd fight would be much of the same if not worse... Groves now knows he can hurt Carl.. I can guarantee Froch will be stopped if there is a rematch. He is made for Groves. Doesn't make him a bad guy far from it.. Groves is on a different level he's faster/stronger and hits harder.. The more times I watch the fight the more I want Carl to retire. I have never been a fan and never will be but I think he should get out while he is relatively healthy.

Watch the fight again. Froch changes his approach from leading the action, to waiting for Groves to throw and then unloading. Groves looked fantastic when he was countering, but started eating hard shot when he was leading. If Froch counters in the rematch, he will win that one as well.

froch may well be slipping, but it will obviously take a better man than groves to get him out of there.

I wonder how Tom Ford got banned? Not that I'm saying you are/were Tom Ford, because as you've mentioned on your abusive PM's to me, you are not Tom Ford. Not at all. Not in anyway. :shame:

There are a couple of you on these boards that have hundred upon hundreds of abusive posts amassed in just a calendar month.

You and those like you, are putting off the long term posters from contributing because there is no debate, but a feeding frenzy of hatred towards Haye, Hearn Froch or whomever else is not flavour of the month.

Froch is a warrior end of story,no man wouldof took them shots and come back to win,YES WIN cause thats what froch did. How can people come on ere and blame froch for cheatin???? Groves punched him after the bell, punched at the back of tge head, put his head in froch face held every time he got hit clean. Froch is a british boxing legend, enjoy him while he is still fighting.
