Boxing News - some questions

Post by DK2112 »

I subscribe to Boxing News and have done for over a year now having previously bought the odd issue here and there. I have some thoughts and questions about it that I will number to make it easier.

1) Do you like the new format or did you prefer the old one? I was all for the change because the old ones were a nightmare for falling apart and the quality was poor especially after coming through the post, often ripped. But I look back at old issues and part of me wishes it could go back to that format, the new look is alright but there's something missing I think. The quality now is very much improved but I have to say I liked the A3 version of BN better having taken a few months to try to get used to the new one. It won't stop me buying it and I'm sure lots of people like it how it is now.

2) The TV schedule is rubbish, and I have missed a number of fights because of trusting it. Never again.

3) Recently coverage from the US has been p*ss poor, I appreciate Brady dying was going to harm this area but how long does it take to replace him? Fight reports from America up until the 18th November issue (where it seems to have got better) have been too brief, if they are there at all.

4) Where is all the so-called 'boxing fitness and nutrition' content that was stated as a major new feature of the new BN? I have yet to see any.

5) I like the new weekly features like the one this week about Audley Harrison, and the stuff like 60 second interview or whatever it is at the back. But flicking through the whole thing is littered with adverts and pictures everywhere and it feels as though actual boxing content is few and far between. This is Boxing News, not Heat magazine.

6) Will you be getting the Boxing Heroes thing about Ali? No doubt that Parsons bloke will pop up from under his rock to give us yet another Ali-fest. For 7 quid I'm seriously thinking of not bothering with it, how about you?

Biggest problem for me with the new format is the content, or at least the perceived lack of it.

I didn't buy one of the new copies until a few weeks ago and it took me about 3 minutes to read from cover to cover.

I much prefer the new format, maybe the Boxing Fitness & Nutrient content is more adverts for that Dorien Yates approved stuff they advertise with Ricky Hatton.

The magazine looks better, but there seems to be less content.

I for one, am glad that there is no 'nutrition etc' section - if I want to read about this I can buy Health and Fitness etc. This is a boxing trade paper.

£7 ??? :-? for how many pages?
Cheaper to get an actual book on Ali, that is if you do not already know every story by now

But saying that I may just browse through a copy if they feature Louis or somebdy else of interest...if its like the normal BN I`ll be able to get through it before I`m asked to move on :TU:

Agreed. At the end of the day if a boxer's serious about their fitness they'll find out the info themselves.

Oh yeah I'm not too bothered myself, but some people will be and my point was it was another false promise.
