No, because of how it happened. He truly didn't see it coming and they are by far the worst ones. It wasn't even a particularly hard punch.columbo wrote:Mickey, I still havent seen your reaction on this..... were you shocked by Blackledge getting knocked out like he did?mickey1975 wrote:Froch has decent power, I don't think anyone has ever claimed he was Julian Jackson. Is Froch's power overrated?

Yeah it did seem odd the way he went down! It didnt look like Fielding got much weight into it.mickey1975 wrote:No, because of how it happened. Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
He's not got huge one punch power, but he is very heavy handed and his punches can have a more cumulative effect than bigger punchers. To put it in laymans terms, I'd rather take one from Froch than Groves, but I'd rather take ten of Groves' punches than Froch's, not that I would want to be taking punches off either of them.

Yeah it could be painful lol.expe wrote:He's not got huge one punch power, but he is very heavy handed and his punches can have a more cumulative effect than bigger punchers. Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
I think it used to be overrated but now the apparent consensus (heavy-handed, but not a huge hitter) seems to be accurate.
Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
I agree with most of you here. I think his power is probably average. He's heavy handed but slow and often telegraphs his punches. The difference I think is that because of his supreme fitness he carries his punch through the twelve rounds whereas others lose the snap on theirs. That makes a big impact in the second half of the fight and particularly the last quarter when opponents have slowed down and find it harder to get out of the way and Froch at that point is also walking through their punches and applying more pressure.
Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
Agreed. Until the final four punches which were super accurate.95gerog wrote:hurlock wrote:The ropes held him up....
Froch bangs & is a stiff hitter like robin Reid.
He looks like he's punching through treacle at times but he allway's lands knowbody mentions that he don't miss a lot
I agree with this post completley, Froch usually has good accuracy. One of the biggest shocks for me was how inaccurate he was at weekend.
The moment that was key for me on Saturday was when groves was in trouble on the ropes and Froch took a step back jn order, to land a truly hurtful shot which was followed by the left hook and straight right to end it. Such calm at the biggest moment of huge fight, it's why he is a different level to Groves (who I'm a big fan of).
Maybe he doesn't have great one punch power like a Stevenson. But in those later rounds he throws accurately and there is enough behind them to make the answer to the original question 'no'.

Yeah I think as John said a couple of posts up he seems to be able to carry his power up into late in the fight aswell because he's supremely fit.garethhop wrote:Agreed. Until the final four punches which were super accurate.95gerog wrote:hurlock wrote:The ropes held him up....

Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
He lacks the speed to be a true one punch knockout artist but he lands very heavy shots and is accurate with it.

Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
the finish of Taylor impressed me most with the accuracy, he must have landed about 25 of 28 shots in a row, or something very close to that, all bang on the chin
Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
Froch reminds me of jeff fenech , they both liked to get a guy on the ropes then turn square on and arm punch powerful combo's.or froch other power shot is his right hand where steps forward with his right leg when he throws the right . i don't think of froch as a banger myself a decent puncher but not a KO artist .

Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
He's not a one punch KO artist but he hurts bad. Groves has more deverstaing one punch power and I said he was the divisons hardest hitter after Stevenson (who's now moved up)columbo wrote:No doubtmullenman wrote:the answer is a simple "yes".
but he is a top class fighter
Everybody was saying it needed proving at world level... well who would've thought Froch would've ever been down like that?
Re: Is Froch's power overrated?
Says a lot about Froch technically when his biggest punch has a major technical mistake when throwing it.stevedoc wrote:Froch reminds me of jeff fenech , they both liked to get a guy on the ropes then turn square on and arm punch powerful combo's.or froch other power shot is his right hand where steps forward with his right leg when he throws the right . i don't think of froch as a banger myself a decent puncher but not a KO artist .
