Sorry for another thread on the Froch/Groves stoppage. My biggest beef with this is as follows:

The vast majority of people who saw the fight thought the stoppage was premature. Regardless of whether your think Froch would have got him out of there in the end, or whether Groves would have survived to capture the belts is academic. The stoppage was early, and that is something that 95% of the boxing public will agree on.

I don't necessarily buy all the corruption talk (although would never totally dismiss it in this game), so it appears that the referee made a genuine mistake.

Therefore, why-oh-why can Howard Foster not come out and simply say "I've re-watched the tapes and it appears I've made an error of judgement in stopping the fight when I did. George Groves was not in danger at the point I jumped in and for this I apologise, but I only have a split second to make a decision and unfortunately I got this one wrong"

He's a human being and human beings make mistakes. Football referees give bad penalties or dodgy sending offs every week.

My problem is that the board have came out and backed him saying they agreed with the stoppage which just makes the whole situation look and feel worse. If we could put it down as a genuine error then we can sort the re-match and move on. Problem solved.

Does anyone else not find this irritating?
