I want to ask all of you a question....

Every time a fight is stopped early and the loser is ahead on points, should that person automatically be given a rematch?

Obviously not. But the rematch has everything you'd want in a fight.

Depends on the scenario.

If the losing fighter had been on the verge of handing the winning fighter his backside & the ref steps in stops it obviously too early, there absolutely should be a rematch.

no not really, this fight has helped groves and tarnished froch all because of howard foster,he should be made to come out and give his reasons why he stepped in.
imagine tho if mike tyson didnt give razor ruddock a rematch, that fight was a worse stoppage than groves.
groves couldnt put a foot wrong in the first 8 rounds of this fight,im just wondering why he didnt finish the job if he is so clear on how many times he buzzed froch with the right hand. if i was challenging for a world title and i buzzed the world champ id wanna get him out of there asap to avoid a) getting knocked out, cause groves said froch would be more dangerous the longer the fight went on. or b) being screwed by the judges, the only on e george can blame for his defeat is himself,if his head was so clear when froch was attacking him in round 9 why did he stumble out the way? why didnt he just fight back smart if his head was so clear? because his head wasnt clear he was rocked and, even if foster didnt stop it then he would of stopped it 10-15 seconds after cause froch smelt blood and groves wouldnt of got through rnd 9.

I know people won't agree...and this is sort of a perfect world answer...but I say yes.

I love rematches...and rivalries are what make the sport... All the best eras, the ones you remember were full of great rivalries.

Froch, Groves and DeGale are all the kind of chaps who will spark off one another like pieces of flint...

Get them fighting one another...this is how golden eras are made.

Yo keith did you not know that most pacemakers in athletics could keep the pace up & win if they didn't drop back & risk a foster head lock

Froch took a battering & he needs a good rest!!! His got a lot of mileage & his health is paramount imo
Groves should join the que! If I was froch I'd give groves a rematch once he's won an eliminator I've decided like v degale or Kessler if he's not retired & collect some more mileage

Good point about Tyson/Ruddock.

In fact, the first words out of Tyson's mouth were, "rematch for Razor Ruddock", even though Tyson was ahead & on top at the time of the premature stoppage.

I agree Froch's health is paramount. If he does fight again and opts not to box Groves, then his reputation would take a massive hit, in my opinion. He could no longer claim to 'fight anyone'. I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to box groves again though, as Groves was doing a proper number on him.

I agree that his reputation would take a knock if he didn't agrre to a rematch, especially as he plays on the fact that he fights 'anybody'. His counter argument seems to be that Groves is still being disrespectful and he stopped him anyway. This papers over the cracks conveniently for Carl as I'm sure he thinks it's going to be even more of a struggle the next time around but he won't openly admit that. I suspect he's hoping Groves keeps on 'being a dick' as he sees it so he can 'legitimately' say 'get lost'.

I would tell Groves to bolt quite frankly, George was baffling on about he should be treated like a champion now regarding negotiations...George you never WON, wake up or you will end in Amir Khan territory... totally deluded.

If Froch thinks he's getting slated he ought to give a thought to Howard Foster who has been threatened on his doorstep.

No, I've not seen him about though he lives on the other side of town. Though I think he dropped a bollock last week he has been on here and he seemed sound; (if I do see him I'll try and get the tenner I lost on Groves off him :OhYes: )

Earn a bit of what would no doubt be better money than this fight was, and earn yourself a bit of credibility back, because the attitude since the bout has stunk the whole of boxing out.

I DO believe you was on your way to a victory, and the ref is the person who has caused the controversy, but stop bitching and get the rematch on rather than ruin your own legacy that you have worked so hard to gain.

You want to be treated like a legend ? well start acting like one then.
This is exceptional post that encompasses all I am thinking and the majority of reasonable boxing fans.
Its a massive payday for Froch too and a fight he is more than capable of winning.
He needs to make this fight and ignore all the hate he has generated their attitude towards him.

Carl Froch wants bout with Andre Ward or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

"As much as the fans want to see it reach a natural conclusion against George Groves, with me knocking him out again, I feel personally I gave him his chance and he blew it - he can't cut it at world level," said the champion."

Oh dear....that is dissapointing.

I suspect that McCracken has talked him out of it.

I think Carl knows that he's not quite got the old magic any more, and doesn't fancy risking a loss to Groves - a loss to Ward won't affect his legacy much.

I'm a bit dissapointed in Carl, he's going to look like a bit of a bitch after this.

I agree, its a good post, short sharp and to the point. It should be posted in a letter to Froch, with all Boxrec users signatures lol

Very dissapointing indeed, but not surprising. His entire demenour post fights hints he does not fancy it. He is looking for an escape route, his mind must be in a real spin right now.

My gut feeling is he will bottle out of the rematch with Groves.

I agree McCraken will be advising him against it which wont help matters in the slightest.

We could all chip in and get a billboard in Nottingham town centre lol.
He is a great warrior but I don't believe it's just the ending that's caused the controversy. It's more to do with how Froch treated and talked to Groves in the build up and then came up very short on his promises. You can't do that people believed Carl when he said this ginger kid with bad breath is getting a pasting for having the audacity to call me out it's a liberty and he will be flattened for it.Ding ding rd1 Froch on his arse.
He lost the casual that second sat on his back side .
Then taking cheap shots after the bell or on the break all didn't help he was doing whatever he could to gain some ground on someone he had said was not worthy of being in the ring with him.
You can be as arrogant as you want a complete arse hole as long as you do what you say you're gonna do.
But if it becomes evident you were trying to hood wink the public
there is no where to hide.
Carl is finding this out he got an arena of casual fans to boo the ginger kid into the ring with his claims like school bullies going to watch a fight in the playground.
If he is pissed off with the fans booking him he has himself to blame not the ref.

I think it would tarnish his reputation as being the guy who never bucked a challenge - of course he does have a legit win, but it's always going to be a contentious one. In the long run though, I think his career will be remembered fondly.

I think that when he and McCracken have watched back the video, and seen how slow he was to get off the mark, and how easily he was beaten to the punch, McCracken has urged him to cash out against Ward, - or a big money fight with Chavez Jr. It was notable after the fight in the ring, that Carl said he would give a rematch 'if' his promoter and trainer agreed, and said it was not his choice - which unfortunately is complete bollocks, at the end of the day, McCracken isn't going to walk away and leave him, and Eddie Hearn would be coming in his pants at the prospect of promoting the fight.

The one thing which gives me hope, is that the Groves fight is now bigger than anything else out there financially, it's going to be big on both sides of the atlantic due to the controversy of the first fight, but then the huge financial rewards never brought Mayweather and Pacman together.

Sad to say, I've lost quite a bit of respect for Carl, whose career I have enjoyed immensely - I hope that he changes his mind, and cashes out with the biggst fight out there.

As disappointing as it would be if no rematch took place, nobody can pick holes if Froch decides to fight Ward then call it a day.

Groves is kidding himself when he says Carl has two options left, fight him or retire. Froch has plenty of options.
