His private life is exactly that, if Ricky needs help then its up to those who he is close to, to sort it.
Leave the bloke alone.

Re: Hatton back on the drink
Yes, let's all leave Ricky be, he deserves it. It's none of our business, and shame on those who ever shelled out loads supporting his rise to fame, US dream and ill-faited comeback last November. Have some respect, for goodness sakes.
And whatever you do, DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT, ever question Hatton's reputation in this game, particularly with regards to the Mayweather tickets demand.

Since when did our fondness for a FIGHTER take away our liberty to debate their apparent failings as a PERSON on this forum, or any other?

You know as well as I do that he isn't, and never was, the people's champion. He had some cracking booze-ups though. I question anyone's dignity who can not speak to their parents and brother for a prolonged period of time, or apparently milk his loyal legion of supporters who hung rigidly to his coat tails for years.Spud wrote:F*ck me let the rucks begin Carey ... let them f*cking rucks begin ...

Had he fought Witter we could have been spared all this because Junior WOULD have stood him on his head, despite what the Hatton fraud police and the Showtime execs that never were might have said. Seriously.
Re: Hatton back on the drink
If Hatton has problems then it adds to his success as a fighter, he did it all when fighting himself; he did very well and did it in a way that people wanted to watch; he was lucky that people could borrow against their homes to watch him but Hatton hasn't conned anyone. He did his level best and there will not be anyone with the same pull for another 10 or 15 years + he could fight, he was very good at his best.

Do you want to have a read of Thomas Hauser's article, Palooka, copied above and entertain me after that?palooka wrote:If Hatton has problems then it adds to his success as a fighter, he did it all when fighting himself; he did very well and did it in a way that people wanted to watch; he was lucky that people could borrow against their homes to watch him but Hatton hasn't conned anyone. You've lost me there Ben, over my head; I've to go to bed, work in the morning but if there's something good to read please post a link and I'll read it when I get in tomorrow and my wife watches Doctors (I'm allowed on the computer then).

Re: Hatton back on the drink
The Hatton-Witter argument is subjective pal, but the notion that Hatton is an all-round good bloke, man of the people, is squeaky clean, absolutely isn't. Hatton's stack seems bomb proof to some people on here which is rather irritating.Spud wrote:Ben Carey wrote:You know as well as I do that he isn't, and never was, the people's champion. People borrowed against their homes to go to Vegas and have a break and watch the fights; there aren't that many ordinary people with 3 or 4 grand in the bank for a weeks break no matter what gets talked about on the betting thread.

Re: Hatton back on the drink
How much involvement do you think Ricky will have had, directly, with ticket sales? Also, hardly a rarity fleecing your fans -- we all remember the Calzaghe Hopkins ticket sale stories where joe charged a guy in his gym extra because "everyone on ebay is doing it so why shouldn't i"
As for witter argument, it can go on and on but, regardless of opinion, junior never beat anyone of the calibre Ricky did, and never performed to the level Ricky did. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

High level sportsmen tend to be highly strung individuals so it's no surprise their lives can end up chaotic during or following their careers.

There's a recurring theme here, Sam. Hatton's long-term relationships with his parents, brother and trainer have evaporated.Wales wrote:Clearly not as hands on as he thought he was otherwise he would've known where billy Graham's money really wasBen Carey wrote:Hatton was always hands-on during his career, particularly when it came to pound notes.Wales wrote:How much involvement do you think Ricky will have had, directly, with ticket sales? I was at a function with Hatton four weeks ago, he looked fine, spoke well and only had a couple of pints. He was on Sky a few hours later in Hull at Towers-Browne.
Re: Hatton back on the drink
For all his faults I can't envisage him as the master puppeteer, as much as he may have perceived he was.
