For me that would be a bit like seeing Kovalev vs Steiglitz or Bika - no thanks. Chavez was outclassed by an aging Martinez.
Aging - maybe? But he wasn't coming off the back of outclassing everyone else in the division (just before GGG became the 'man to beat') and people forget how class and skillful Martinez is. He could still beat Froch

No he wasn't, he has to be fully up and in a position to defend himself. I'm aware of the BBBoC's rules. That's why I said it was a fair stoppage at the time, and explained why, and was vindicated a few days later.

And, as I said before, it was nothing like the Groves situation. Yous just pulled that out as it's one that happened in recent memory.
I ain't talking about the Groves thing, I'm talking about Chisora-Scott. He need to be 'regained his feet', that is not 'fully up' as you suggest. The ref gets to nine and takes far less than a second to get to 'you're out'. Scotthad 'regained his feet', which also does not mean stood bolt upright, as the ref waved his arms. IMO, Scott was in a position to defend himself and the ref shafted him. If you think differently, that's your opinion.

Are you saying that a boxer is not in a position to defend himself if he is not upright?

Malik Scott swallowed! He was hurt, away from home & it's 9 & out

People get confused over the simple rule of up before ten not after ten

Since and post Chavez he has looked pretty poor.

Martinez is a fine boxer, no doubting that - but when he finally became the "man" to beat, he didn't exactly have the most active of reigns.

Martinez did not outclass Barker and Macklin before Chavez - there was evidence he was slipping beforehand, thats why a few pundits on ringside and on primetime went for Chavez.

Chavez is a decent middleweight, but hardly the next coming. He was losing to Andy Lee at the time of the stoppage.

He's world class at a fringe level and been a belt holder - may even start as underdog against the top 3 Brits in the division... his strength at Middleweight is his monster size - he won't have that at Middleweight. Thats why I used Steiglitz and Bika in my analogy to moving up to face Kovalev.

He might even beat Froch but I see nothing to gain "legacy" wise from such a fight.... Chavez is a proven drugs cheat who got done by a fighter who scraped past Macklin.

When signalling to the ref that you can continue, the accepted logic is to beat the eight, thereby giving yourself time to get your hands up and step forward, once motioned to do so. Going into 9, Scott was eyeball to the eyeball with the referee's bollocks, and he certainly isn't fast enough to take the above steps in time. He was legimately counted out. It was a phoney controversy.

One guy on here divided it into tenths of a second to make a case for Scott, I assumed he's a) a virgin b) lives with someone who is frigid c) is actually Anne Widdecombe.
Nice post, but you didn't answer my question.

How do you work out that he didn't want any more? He looked fine to me. If the ref had bothered to ask him, or asked him to walk forward, we might have found out.

That's the difference!
So 'the public' should decide who deserves a rematch and who doesn't? Should 'the public' do all match making?
If they are buying tickets the the promoters will want it.
Boxing is a business.

Promoters want to put on fights the public want to see and pay for.

Back by popular demand.

Promoters like people to buy tickets. Promoters like to make money.

Any promoter would like to stage this fight.

Who can disagree?

I hope social media hasn't destroyed hope of a great rematch.

strange one froch - going from he deserves a rematch (post fight) to he's not getting one and chavez jr (!) is a great fighter. jr doesn't even train properly anymore, does he? and doesn't even bother to make weight.

sounds like serious rhetoric from froch, which is a shame because in the ring there's few more honest competitors.

I agree mate. When I speak to casual/sports fans and they bring up bad stoppages, bad decisions etc. I always seem to be defending boxing. I really wish it wasn't like that.
Boxing’s not been the same since losing its Registered Charity status in 1989. It went from almost a sequel to the fantasy world bits in Pleasantville to a cynical sport with an added edge of gritty realism.

You are seriously nuts!!! Nurse. He's loose again!!!

Dead Mouse wrote:Upright after a knockdown means erect with his hands up as he’s in a position to defend himself and is letting the ref know this loud and clear, which is what is taught and expected. Scott wasn’t.
That isn't written into the BBBofC rules, so it's just you assuming.
Dead Mouse wrote:After you’ve watched a few more fights with similar endings or how the majority of boxers time a count after a knockdown, you’ll start to pick up on why Scott, and his corner, as they were a second behind the count, made a mistake.
I've watched thousands of fights and there are plenty of fights and the fighter is given the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you need to watch a few fights again. Like Buster Douglas getting up against Tyson.

Also, you still haven't answered my question. It's a simple answer. Either a yes or a no.

Are you saying that a boxer is not in a position to defend himself if he is not upright?

Do you mean if he's bobbing and weaving or similar to how Groves was after Foster half nelsoned him?
