David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
I think it probably is the right move for Big David...build his confidence up before Chisora beats him.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Who will be made mandatory to Chisora to fight for it then?

Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
I bet that was a tough decision for Price. A good win over Delboy would go a very long way to re-establishing him, and to earning bigger purses. If the next opponent for Delboy flattens him, Price might regret it.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
He's gone back to the drawing board!! Before he was looking to be a successor to the klitchkos by defeating them , now he looks like he's happy to pad himself out at low level with a fragile approach until they retire.its a good move on the long term front in what he's going for.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Short term it looks slightly embarrassing if there isn't any confidence to even defend domestic titles.
Long term it is probably the right approach though as another heavy defeat on the spin , making it three in a row, would ruin him as a credible contender.

Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
good move he was inactive with these titles they need to be defended some good possibilities and they involve the ready and willing del boy.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
I'd imagine the Board will try and make Chisora-Fury II. Tyson will probably turn it down and after that it's pretty open (although clearly the quality of opposition falls dramatically).TopGun wrote:Who will be made mandatory to Chisora to fight for it then?
As morbid as it sounds I'd quite fancy seeing Chisora and Audley!!!!!
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Yeah i would actually like to see that too, even just for the fact that if marketed right it could gain alot of media attention.Jack B wrote:I'd imagine the Board will try and make Chisora-Fury II. I think a Chisora -v- Price battle is hard to call.TopGun wrote:I think it probably is the right move for Big David...build his confidence up before Chisora beats him.
Price's confidence is on the floor right now & he'll be worried about his chin, but Chisora hits about as hard as my grandma.
Flipside, Chisora seems to wobble in a stiff breeze these days (& I'm not talking about his flab) & Price hits very hard, so a fight between those two might not be easy to call right now.

Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
I think he should have held on to those belts because being British & Commonwealth champ is no small achievement and probably the pinnacle of his career. Either way, if he truly believed he will still win a world title, he should have put it on the line against Chisora because a solid win would get him back on track. If he lost, he would have to realize that he can't make it at the top of the division.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
And, let's face it, take Fury out of the equation and he's at the same level, if not better, than the other possible contenders (Sprott, Sexton, McDermott, Lewison, Towers etc.)Finn wrote:Yeah i would actually like to see that too, even just for the fact that if marketed right it could gain alot of media attention.Jack B wrote:I'd imagine the Board will try and make Chisora-Fury II. Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Well realistically Sprott and McDermott are surely the best possible lonsdale belt challengers against Chisora and Audley Harrison is actually ranked above them on boxrec, is the former EBU title holder and has sparked sprott out in their last meeting. I would put him top of the list on paper also couldnt they make it for the British and European titles or would they have to do that separatley?Jack B wrote:

Thats providing Tyson Fury doesnt want the fight of course.

Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Price vacating is the only sensible move.
He can go and box in Germany under the radar for a wee while. The slower pace of the Europeans will help him to settle and mature as a boxer, rather than going in gung ho and thinking he can blow people away all the time. They teach defence first over there.
Not having a dig on here, but I hope the same people who were slagging off Fury when he vacated can come on here and admit their shortcomings.
Fury fought 2 decent Americans, and made himself the biggest name in Heavyweight Boxing (expect the Klitschkos). Maybe in 18 months Price will be doing the same.
Things go from bad to worse for allegedly. He can't make a decent fight for love nor money right now!

I think a certain Anthony Joshua might be looking at the British fairly soon.

i would have thought he is at least 6 fights away from challenging for the British title.ScottDetonator wrote:I think a certain Anthony Joshua might be looking at the British fairly soon.

I'm surprised there isn't a thread saying that Price is a coward for ducking Chisora. There was plenty of that when Fury vacated to protect his TV deal.

Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
It was quite clear from the Sauerland move that Price is looking to build himself back up outside of the UK. So those belts became more of a hinderance than a marketable asset.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Good sensible move by Team Price.
He doesnt need the pressure at the moment. He needs to rebuild his confidence and he clearly isnt mentally ready for a fight with Chisora at this stage.
Regarding cowardice as aluded to by someone above. The difference between Price giving up the titles at this stage and Fury vacating, is that Fury was saying how he would pound everyone including Price only to then give up the titles when Price was looming and with big momentum. Price's circumstances are completely different and he hasnt given it the big 'un before vacating.

I'm not saying he's a coward mate. I think it's the right thing to do, just like it was the right thing for Fury at that time - although I always said Fury would knock him out. We may now never see that fight.liamlion wrote:Regarding cowardice as aluded to by someone above. Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
difference is we know why price is vacating he doesnt think he can beat chisora right now and needs to go back to the drawing board on his boxing. Fury vacated whilst telling everyone how he was going to stretch price out in reality it was too high risk for him.keithmoonhangover wrote:I'm surprised there isn't a thread saying that Price is a coward for ducking Chisora. Good points. And who's to say in 12 months time Chisora and Fury won't have lost fights, whilst Price has maybe won 5 or 6 in a row and is looking good again ?ThereByTheGrace wrote:Price vacating is the only sensible move.

Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
I agree. He'll probably have 2 of those 6 before the new British is crowned. I would think after that, a couple of decent wins and he will certainly be up there for the British by the BBBofC, end of 2014.Finn wrote:i would have thought he is at least 6 fights away from challenging for the British title.ScottDetonator wrote:I think a certain Anthony Joshua might be looking at the British fairly soon.
I think we can rule Fury out of the domestic scene for now. Would Chisora see it as a step back fighting for a title he's all ready won, I know he wanted Price but that was a decent showdown and a big name on his record. I don't know how he stands on it if he had to fight Sprott, Sexton or Towers for it.
Things look set for a decent couple of years on the HW scene involving our guys, especially now Vitali is set to retire and the WBC will be up for grabs. A few right moves and Price will surely be up there.
Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Why though?! We all know that Audley will fall apart as he usually does. He'd talk a good game in the build up and not do jack shit when it matters.Finn wrote:Yeah i would actually like to see that too, even just for the fact that if marketed right it could gain alot of media attention.Jack B wrote:I'd imagine the Board will try and make Chisora-Fury II. Re: David Price Vacates Belts - right move?
Price v sprott could easily happen on an undercard in hamburg or somewhere. Without the added pressure of titles on line. Sprott travels well to germany and is a good opponent there. Over about 8 rounds so price does not empty his tank! . . . . Good call i think.
