Been a few over the years.

Earnie and Billy Smith (RIP fellas). Billy especially always looked capable and gave it ago.

There was that Welsh fella - name escapes me.... got done for benefit fraud a few years ago. Not championing his grime but a solid journeyman who always gave it ago.

Another Welshman - Mervyn Bennett (RIP).

Howard Clarke.

My least favourite journeyman was the fat Welsh Heavyweight who used to snot all over his opponent in most of his fights. Think his name might have been Andrew Davies - can remember him fighting Johnny Nelson, with Nelson's shoulder covered in bloody bogeys - disgusting (it was a regular think for him).

Keith Jones is the man you are thinking of, I wouldn't really think of Mervyn as a journeyman, good fighter, hard man.

Oh mate ! I myself would love too see more competitive fights.all the blame can't be put on managers.theres loads of fighters that want to pick & choose their matches.one things for sure.if every fighter had the balls of most journeymen there would be plenty more good fights.too my memory , I've never turned down a fight because the opponent is too good/hardhitting.a journeyman prize fighter a couple of years ago would've been fantastic.we woulda fought our hearts out.i still think I coulda won but that's another story, haha

My favourite was Tony Booth.

Mine too. He knew the score a bit too much though! If there was no chance at all of winning he would do very little, if there was a chance he would have a go. He was at his best when fighting local lads, as if he had a point to prove.

He had a hot streak for a while there. I guess if he'd trained harder he could have won a lot more fights.

Tony was a natural Super Middle at the most who fought at Heavyweight! He had genuine power, too. He got a few wins though, 52, cant think of any British boxers with that many for a long time.

William Warburton is a lot better boxer than his 10-54-3 record suggests.

Peter McDonagh has to be up there, always comes to win and should probably have more wins than he does if he got a few more decisions.

A favourite of mine is Ibrar Riyaz. Always looks in great shape and whenever he's hit by a big shot, he makes that Michael Jackson Ooooh sound.....which amuses me.

The reason for that is,most boxers box for the chance to win titles, we or I especially boxed for the money and to pay the bills.winning wouldnt get you out every week unless you sell a ticket

big time mate.nothing to do with money but just the lifestyle & the time spent with my brother and the boys in the gym.was in the gym today for first time in weeks and its made me miss it more.its funny because frank has a couple of other boys just starting out & I watched em just thinking about things.id give anything to be in their position.other than my children it was the best thing I ever did.youll never experience emotions like it.id give my right bollock for another 50 fights

Really interesting you say that Johnny. What do you miss the buzz? The dedication? Boxing is one of those sports where you cannot take short cuts, it's all or nothing and I think that's why so many boxers have been known to go off the rails when they retire. It's really sad but I can understand why. The sport is very lonely and hard that without it it's not like football where you swan in for a few hours training, massage and then home most days, you guys are pounding the streets, hitting the bags all day long.
