Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
The Daily Record in Scotland have reported today that Kenny Anderson was stripped of his British title earlier this year and hit with two-year suspension after failing drug test. It was originally thought that Kenny had vacated the title in the summer due to personal issues.

I thought he'd gone strangely quiet, I wonder what Libby J Harvey makes of all this.
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
It's a shame, he was a good, powerful boxer; it'd take a lot for him to keep training for another 12 months while working to provide.
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
I hope no one blames George Groves
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
A real shame. Anderson had the potential to be a a top player at British, Commonwealth and European title level for the next few years.
It's getting a real downer all these boxers getting done for banned substance.

Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
I guess that he tested positive after the Reid fight for the vacant British title ?
This throws up an interesting question - in other sports, when an athlete has been found guilty of taking performance enhancing drugs the records are changed and the eg. silver medallist gets the gold, the bronze gets the silver, 4th place gets the bronze etc. even if it is years after the event.
What will the BBofC do ? - anything ? - I guess that they will just make the title vacant, but what about Robin Reid - should he be made the champion ?
The fact that Reid was at the end of his career is irrelevant to the concept - what should the Board do in these circumstances ?

Kenny should be just grass another boxer up for doping and he'll be back in the ring in January

I can't see how Whizz can be performance enhancing. It would explain why he always looks miserable, though.bripez wrote:I guess that he tested positive after the Reid fight for the vacant British title ?

I guess it can be used to get weight off before the fight and to give the effect of more "energy" during the fight ?
Either way, if somebody wins a title and is then found to have taken a banned substance for that title fight - what should happen ? what are the rules ?
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
Surely in this day and age there are better and more difficult to detect performance enhancers than amphetamine. The drug is out of the system with a week so he must have 'taken it'/been spiked in the week before the bout. It's a bit silly, Anderson was an experienced amateur and was a good pro - he'd have known surely he'd be tested post fight. It may be that someone has spiked him, I'd not like to be in their shoes.
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
From what I can gather the test was conducted after the fight. As a result I don't see any reason why Robin Reid should benefit in anyway. We can only assume Kenny was clean for the fight and won the fight fair and square. The board done the right think by vacating the title which saw Paul Smith and Tony Dodson face each other in the summer to determine who is champion.bripez wrote:I guess that he tested positive after the Reid fight for the vacant British title ?

Same reason Chavez was, or Mark Bosnich for coke etc. You sign-up to be a licence holder there's certain rules and regulations you have to adhere to. It's the boards reputation too
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
If the test was taken directly after the Reid bout and tested positive for amphetamine (and amphetamine is seen by the board to be a performance enhancer) then it could be surmised that Anderson had an unfair advantage over Reid (who did not test positive for any banned substances). I can see a very good reason why Reid should be given some sort of benefit, particularly as this affair has come to light so long after the bout.chad wrote:bripez wrote:I guess that he tested positive after the Reid fight for the vacant British title ?

Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
Maybe Kenny should be forced to pay part, or all of his winning pursue to Reid? Seeing so much time has passed, I can't see that being a realistic option as I suspect the money is probably long gone. Could Robin Reid take legal action against Anderson his manager and promoter for compensation?palooka wrote:If the test was taken directly after the Reid bout and tested positive for amphetamine (and amphetamine is seen by the board to be a performance enhancer) then it could be surmised that Anderson had an unfair advantage over Reid (who did not test positive for any banned substances). Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
There are some good questions - but what are the answers ?
Are there any answers ? If not, then why not ?
As a governing body, if they are going to test and ban boxers for taking whatever they deem to be "illegal" substances then surely the BBBofC must have a written rule or something as to how to deal with it ?
As athletics have a rule that the record is amended and the other athletes re-categorised, then the BBofC need to come up with something.
Whatever that "something" is, some will agree and others will disagree, but at least it is clear and transparent exactly what that something is - even if it is just retrospectively ruling the fight a no contest (or more controversially, awarding the fight to the other boxer - now that would be interesting .......)
At the moment, who knows ?
Apart from the above, this whole process seems to have taken a very long time, and also whatever process seems to have been conducted in such a way as to brush this under the carpet.

Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
In an ideal world the drug cheat would be identified before the fight has actually happened. Random drug tests in the lead up to the fight. A positive test can be identified within 24 hours, but needs to be sent for further analysis. As soon as a positive test is identified the fight should be called off immediately. Within a few days all "illegal" substances should have been identified. It could be a nightmare with fights being called off on the day.bripez wrote:There are some good questions - but what are the answers ?

Any cheat who takes a banned substance in boxing should be banned for life.
Re: Kenny Anderson banned for 2 years after failing drug test
I remember a mate of mine doing speed once and the day after he was on a bit of a downer and he puked and it had blood in it. I dunno if it had been mixed with something else or that's standard but it was proper rank.SNG wrote:Quoted for truth.G0mez wrote:You need at least half a gram to a gram of whizz/speed to have a reasonable effect.

The base amphetamine is much stronger though and is cut with brewers sugar to bash it down; a gram of base and you'd not know what the fornicate had happened and I speak from plenty of experience

There is so much more to this story then I could begin to explain on here, I agree with Arnie any cheat should be banned. Absolutely no chance Kenny willingly took anything to enhance his performance or make weight. It's a nonsense.
