Tony Bellew - You headbutted Stephenson First - why deny?

Post by TopGun »

Why does Tony Bellew keep saying in interviews that he was butted first by Stepheson? Are my eyes deceiving me here or is Tony deluded, clearly his head goes into Stephenson first. Tony, you are not doing yourself any favours.

" I’d just like to re-iterate, the thing at the weigh in [NB – Bellew and Stevenson butted heads and had to be separated at the weigh in] was not down to me, it was down to him. I was butted first. If people look back at the replays you’ll see that he antagonised and went for me first so that was nothing to do with me, was just reacting to what was being done to me"

I don't want to bang heads with you (no pun intended) but... does it really matter now?

And what the video doesn't show was him and his crew getting into Tony's face the very moment as they arrived to the venue.

Also it's Adonis that puts his forehead on Tony at first and leans in. That's when he pushes back and the handbags come out.

Who cares now? I thought Tony showed a lot of class since the fight.

I hear you, but I just keep reading about it all the time and in his most recent interview he once again says it wasn't his fault. For me he is the one who started it, so why does Tony keep bringing it up?

Don't worry about it, all Scousers are the same - they all have a persecution complex.

No one butted no one, there heads/noses where touching already which was perfectly normal, it started getting abit full on, then Stevenson pushed hard and shoved bellew first, then bellew returned the favor by pushing back even harder ! So I agree with bomber.

Jessi,please review the video:
1min 24seconds - Bellew's head lowers towards Stephenson's nose

Stephenson does exactly the same back with Bellew finishing it with a bigger Butt.

Headbutt: an aggressive and forceful thrust with the top of the head into the face or body of another person.

Would be interesting to see a Zinedine Zidane style headbutt at a weigh in. Lol.

Even in Bellew's quote he calls it a 'butt' and I have heard him say 'head butt', look lets not get predantic about this, oh yeah, I started this thread.

Whatever you call it, Tony clearly started it right?

Similar sort of behavior as we saw before the first scheduled Cleverly fight, when he was giving it the big one at the presser and then came in at the check weight-in over 13st for a fight at 12st 7lbs !! Hard to respect the guys achievements with all the carry-on if you ask me.

I looked to me like Tony pushed first, Stevenson pushed back with similar force, then Tony responded much more forcefully than had been the case with the previous exchange, though it was still more of a push with the head rather than a strike with the head.

Yeah I think he did a similar thing to Cleverly as well. I've gone off Bomber completely. He always talks a good game, which I guess you have to do to a certain extent but he is just a thug now and thinks it's everyone else's fault. Would like Bomber to speak up really and explain himself about this butt and why he thinks he was in the right.

I remember Bellew called Cleverly a rat and offered to fight him in the car park - a bit like this time when he tried to get a bit previous with Stephenson but then looked a bit sheepish when Stephenson didn't back down.

Another common factor is that both boxers beat him.

As somebody said at the time, you see it all over Liverpool with the locals screaming and shouting threatening this and that in front of the large student population acting all tough - but it is a bit different when you try it on with somebody who isn't intimidated.

Because his antics were out of order and he still says it was Stephenson who started it first. It's just not very professional and gives the sport a bad name. If he had come out and apologised I wouldn't have the needle but when he blames the other person it's poor taste. It's not the first time Tony has mouthed off either. Perhaps he is fame hungry and wants to make a name for himself?

Sorry but a thread asking a pro-boxer and genuine world class contender to apologise for some gesture at a press conference…

Tony’s got better things to do. I really hope he doesn’t bother to reply.

Please, we’re lucky to have boxers post on here. Don’t make them want to stay away.
