Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
Isn't the vast amount of dosh because Sturm floats his own terrestrial TV deal over there or something?
They're desperate to get Felix the title back. I concur with the estimate of twelve points being a decent margin to secure victory.

Im pretty sure he has got to fight Geale again. When Barker fought Geale, it was a voluntary defense for Geale and Gary Shaw put options on the fight.Naandrew wrote:Pretty sure I remember Eddie on IFL saying there was no rematch cluase but they would fight Geale in UK. Would rather Geale get a decent win first still not a bad fighter.columbo wrote:Pretty sure he's got to fight Geale in a rematch after this one.mikiesb wrote:Barker will out box/work Sturm in this fight avoids a war , and gets the points in the bag for a safe majority decision, and then onto another money spinner with a top uk fighter - he deserves it - hope he doesn't have any close rounds as he's fighting in germany...
After that's done I reckon he will take on another champ hopefully !
Fingers crossed he will do it !
Just want the fight with Murray next.

I like Barker to stop him. This is Sturm cashing out his last big payday. Barker will be well up and will look to force the stoppage late on to make sure of it

Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
I can't see Barker loosing this. As mentioned Sturm is fading and not the fighter he used to be either.
Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
Is this fight over and done with? I just got in and have found my stream for tonight but it's just showing basketball at the moment. There's no RbR's on here... Is anybody actually fighting now?

Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
I got Darren Barker so wrong!! He has to be No1 on my "Got It Wrong" list.
I remember years ago I stated Darren Barker does not have what it takes to win a world title or even get anywhere near one!!
Not only has Darren won a world title he managed to secure one of the more reputable belts too. He can not only call himself a world class fighter but after watching that programme on him last night a world class bloke too!! I couldnt believe what a nice, humble down to earth bloke he is and listening to him talk about his brother showed the depth of the bloke too!! I always knew his trainer Tony Simms is a top man but didnt think he would achieve what he has with Darren.
Now I have got that off my chest in the "Boxrec Confession Booth" ... tonights fight is a tough one, not only have Team Barker got to beat Felix Sturm, they have to beat the judges too ... as the phrase goes "you have to knock your opponent out in Germany to get a draw".
In this particular fight I think Fast Car Eddie has done a bloody good job in securing a "life changing" pay day but more importantly the absolutely vital "rematch" clause in the fight contract ... I state this because it wouldnt surprise me if we get a controversial result tonight. Sturm is a tough **** and regardless of the result the fight will be a great watch ... looking forward to it.
Fight Result ... split decision.

Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
I can't see past Sturm for this one. I think Barker, and everyone around him seem way too confident. The fact that his payday for this fight keeps being mentioned also makes me wonder if it's Barker that's cashing in. He's coming up for 32, 10 years as a pro, and regardless of how it's portrayed I still think there are injury issues. I have a feeling Barker may be looking to wind things down, spend time with him family and call it a day whilst he can still walk.
Sturm on points for me, maybe even a late stoppage. I just think Sturm has more quality, experience and possibly a bit more hunger. If Sturm doesn't win tonight his career could be over.

Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
A late stoppage? When's the last time Sturm beat any world-class opponent by stoppage? I can see Sturm getting a split decision win, but Barker's relative youth and greater work rate offsets Sturm's experience and I certainly don't think he's any less hungry.chad wrote:I can't see past Sturm for this one. Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
Has Barker always had a large noisy support or have the Chelsea fans got behind him after the Geale win. World champ paraded in front of Stamford Bridge?
Re: Barker v Sturm predictions
Admittedly Sturm hasn't had a top level stoppage for a while however he shook both Macklin and Murray late on when he stepped on the gas and threw caution to the wind. Barker has been put down on both occasions when he's stepped up to world level. He showed great bravery to get up from the body shot from Geale.Deserter wrote:A late stoppage? I just think with the fans behind him, memories of recent close decisions and his career potentially on the line Sturm might not leave it so late to step on the gas this time.
Just the way I see it.
