fight of the year 2013?

Post by PaddyGold »

There will be a few suggestions for fight of the year. I would like to put up Jeff "Hornet" Horn vs. Naoufel "Chocolata" Ben Rabah tonight as the fight of the year. Great fight! :box: :TU:

Firstly didnt watch the fight, but a very good win for Horn. Sounds like it was a cracker fight also? aggressive match making from horns team and I wont knock that. However not sure the fight made sense for Ben Rabah? 37-3 before the Horn fight comming off about 6 wins he was in a position where given his past and current standing he'd probably have only been 1 or 2 fights away from earning another title shot. Instead opts to fight a hot prospect 5-0 over 6 rounds ?? he must of figuered he'd beat Horn and underestimated him, id have thought hed have wanted at least 10 rounds and ideally a regional belt on the line to make the fight worth the risk?

I will second Paddy's suggestion. Best fight I have seen in years. Horn is an exceptional talent and a future World Champion in my opinion.

Jeff Horn, is a freak, i haven't seen anyone do what he has done in his first year as a pro.

My new favorite Australian fighter, Rabah is a mountain, and Jeff just climbed and conquered.

TV needs to be behind this guy, because we're witnessing something special, that we haven't seen since Kostya.

Where do you guys think Horn goes from here? Can't imagine to many local guys be keen to get in with him ?

Not sure N2 Shape, He really took it to Rabeh. Who is a world class fighter.

I wondered before hand about the 6 round distance and maybe Horn would have gassed if they fought 8. But judging the fight I don't think Rabeh would have lasted 2 more rounds. He was copping a lot of punishment.

Horn has to look at getting a couple of good African/Asian or Euro fighters at 10 rounds, then shoot for the stars IMO. No point fornicating around, or the easiest of the 'big three' world titlists, why not, there would be about 17 in that 'big three' and he can't lose.

Suppose there are a couple options locally wether they would take the fight or not is another thing. Wouldnt hurt getting a couple more 10-12 rounders under his belt before stepping up internationally for a big fight. Possible Rivan Cesaire rematch given how the first finished, possibly for a regional. And then theres Zappinga but couldnt see him fighting Horn unless tempted financially.

N2, some guys need regional titles, to build there confidence, to milk the public, this guy doesn't seem to be that fighter, he's just smashed two of the best welters in this country in his first year as a pro, and 1 guy who qualified for the WBC world cup.

No need to mess around with regional BS, keep putting him up against mountains and he'll conquer them, boxing brains in this industry in this part of the world show very little common sense, every now and then a golden ticket comes along, horn is that ticket... line em up, he'll knock em down.

Hounddawg, mate I agree there are to many alphabet soup titles around these days. Horn can keep winning non title fights over 10 rounds and looking good sure, he'll move up the ranks. A regional belt isnt the ONLY way to get yourself to where you want to go. But it will get him ranked with one of the major sanctioning bodies WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF. Can fast track himself to a big fight and as we have seen he has the abilitiy and isnt afraid to mix it with some very good fighters already.

A Horn/Leti fight would be a good stoush in my opinion. From memory it was planned earlier in the year? Horn would be the favourite and would likely get the W but Leti would give him a good run. Maybe an Aussie title?

Horn would smash Leti, no offence to Leti though. Bad fight for both as horn can't gain from it and it hurts Leti.

I agree on Leti x 2, it would be just that a stay busy fight, Leti is not what people thought him to be, and imo a waste of precious time.

People forget who Rabah is, Sam was knocked senseless in 1 of the biggest KO's I've seen in a while, this guy isn't a joke, he's the real McCoy mate, all this heresay future senseless matchmaking with this bloke is utter stupidity. He needs to keep on keeping on, and role with this unbelievable debut year. Wale Omotoso springs to mind as a great showcase on 1 of Australia's premier fighters PPV, you'll need the bucks to get him back from the states, and Horn can legitimately clean his back yard in 7 or 8 pro fights,( unheard off, Cesaire was a good fight, but Horn had him, wouldn't worry too much about that fight, I'm a fan of Zappa, but he gets knocked cold it's not his weight.
