Michael Spinks vs Antonio Tarver

Post by cybox »

Spinks is only one of 2 men ( RJ Jr) to win the light heavy and step up to win the heavyweight title. (I'm not counting Moorer and his WBO) Tarver is the current best 175 lb fighter out there and wants to step up to heavyweight. We saw what he did to Jones. Jr. How would Tarver fare against The Spinks Jinx?

Tarver is a good fighter. And it seems that if he & Jones fight 20 times,he will win 20 times. Some fighters no matter how good they are have the one guy that they will always lose to,and for Jones,it is Tarver. But Spinks is in a different class than these guys.Spinks as stated above scores a one-sided K.O.

Zuru, AS BB pointed out, Technicaly If Jones and Tarver fight 20 times Tarver will win 19 of the them.

I'm going with Spinks I think he was not just a Roy Jones specialist which is what I have come to call Tarver. Just a better Ring General and has such an unusual style.

Hmmmm Maybe if Tarver studied for years just to beat Spinks he might be able to do it. But then he wouldnt be able to beat Jones.

Spinks wins this one. Spinks beat far better fighters during his reign. It would not even be that competitive.

Like everyone else, I have to go with Jinx on this one. Mike Spinks is one of the great all-time light heavies and would whoop up on Tarver for 7 or 8 rounds before a late stoppage.

I can see why ppl would discuss Spinks-Tarver.

Both can be quite awful to look at, technically sloppy, ungainly. and both can really punch. But look at how Tarver loses confidence when pressed (Glen Johnson, for example). Look how Spinks would engage the guy and blast them out, i.e. the excellent Marvin Johnson & Yaqui Lopez.

Spinks is another class. He always found a way and STAYED at the top. 10 title defenses in the toughest ever era of light heavies. Tarver beat some difficult foes (Harding, Jones, Johnson), but he also lost to all of them!

Yes the judges blindly out of a Jones"high" gave the fight to Jones, but everyone with eyeballs who saw the fight,KNOW that Tarver was robbed. So technically yes, maybe 19 out of 20.

if jones fought tarver in his prime..then he wins 20 out of 20 times. tarver beat for the most part, and over the hill jones.

anyway ill take spinks in a lopsided fight.. TKO round 8

Tarver is so overated because he beat an over the hill Roy Jones. I don't think it would even be that competitive against Spinks. Spinks KO6. :box:

Spinks on points.

Tarver is a good fighter but would have been just another good contender when Spinks was the king of the Light-Heavyweights. The division was full of monsters in those days like Scott, Qawi, Saad Muhammad, Lopez, Martin, Johnson and Conteh etc etc

Spinks was topdog in a golden 175lb era and would have had too many ringsmarts and that dangerous Spinks Jinx to keep Tarver at bay.

The drop back down from heavyweight and losing all that muscle so fast damaeged Jones. Before the Ruiz fight he would have toy'd with Tarver and Johnson. Tarver he would have ko'd mid rounds, Johnson would have been a very lopsided decision win for Jones.
