Sturm didn't do that damage.

The people who bought tickets to the bout didn't owe Darren anything, he'd been paid for the fights he'd had and the training he'd done. If he went into this bout knowing he was crocked then it makes a mockery of the medical examinations and the safety considerations; what about the people that had put money on Barker to win?

Both Sturm's TV deal and run at the top all hinged on victory tonight.

I have to give him credit for his approach. He was also a gentleman before, during and immediately after. Sturm came and did the business tonight.

There is also no doubt something odd was going on with this stance after he rose up, he looked like he was trying to put all his weight onto the other leg.

Credit to Sims, he is not a "brave" American trainer, he wasn't going to let Barker be a sitting duck - and rightly threw the towel in.

The original point of this thread was to discuss the poorest word title defences made by a 'world champion'. Whichever way you choose to dress it, or Barker does, or his fans, tonight's second round loss to a faded Felix Sturm fits into that category. I don't need to pound a heavy bag, crack some raw meat, or do a six mile run to tell you what you seemingly refuse to acknowledge.

Has to be Buster Douglas' against Evander Holyfield, but Darren Barker sure gave him a run for his money tonight. He made a Sturn so exposed by Martin Murray look like Julian Jackson. After all Darren's been through, physically and emotionally, to watch him fold like that tonight was hard to watch. It was almost as if Sturm was deliberately targeting Darren's temple as a weak spot. Feel so sorry for Darren.

Barker aint going to be in it. Murray will defend his regular title. Andy Lee and Macklin will fight each other and Murray will get the winner.

Even if Barker comes back, it will be too late because it is starting to get to the stage where those three really want the fights.

Personally I was pretty shocked at how Darren folded last night. Jim Watt was talking his usual rubbish. Of course Barker had to go and fight it out. If he tried to box on the back foot in Germany he would have no chance. The shots that did him were decent but no more. I think the Geale fight took everything out of Darren. He put his heart and soul into the fight and came through hell and sadly there wasn't anything left last night. Strum himself has been to the well many times and I was surprised he looked so sharp. Still think the other champs would have him on toast.
On last nights evidence I wouldn't fancy Darren lasting long with Macklin and think Murray would wear him down. Andy Lee I've never been convinced by but may also hit too hard. If the hips that bad and if the punch resistance is that far gone I think it would best if Darren retires. By all accounts he got a huge payday the other night. Hope he gets to see most of it.
