Get in Curtis, really praying for you for this fight you deserve it pal. I usually stay away from Hull, but might have to venture up for this one. Come on knock his head off.

Is this a voluntary defense or have the Board mandated it ?

voluntary
Re: Woodhouse Vs Hamilton..
I love Curtis Woodhouse, not just because he's a Blade, but because of his honesty and determination to make a big success of his boxing career. That aside, I think the Board need to have a rethink around quality control and voluntary title defences. I'm not saying that Curtis will be disgraced, he may even pull off an upset, but I don't think he deserves another title shot at British or Commonwealth level over others until he's either won back the English and/or an eliminator of sorts.

How do you know if no one else had the chance and turned it down Sooty ?
Hats off to Dave Coldwell.

To be fair though the bboc are inconsistent in this regard. When Witter was champ, Allan Bosworth won an eliminator....the bboc deemed him not worthy, so gave Witter the belt.Parson Cross wrote:How do you know if no one else had the chance and turned it down Sooty ?
Hats off to Dave Coldwell.
If Curtis is the only available challenger, maybe they should consider the same for Hamilton.
Complete agree with bens post.

FFS ... who gives a toss whether Mr Woodhouse deserves the shot or not? He has got it, nothing we can do about it.
Boxing is full of withdrawn opponents and late replacements - or voluntary defences for so called easy money only for the champion to lose ... could this be another??
I suggest Woodhouse's manager has done a good job for a change
maneouvering his fighter into this position and whats intriguing about this one is - plenty of time to prepare - so no excuses!!

Re: Woodhouse Vs Hamilton..
Witter had destroyed Alan in 3 rounds before though and didn't get hit once back, there was no one at all to face Witter at that level at that time - he was a league above and I understand why the board did what they did - Witter was a world class boxer stuck for a time at british level, the others under him were people training hard to get to british title level, there was a gulf.stujones wrote:To be fair though the bboc are inconsistent in this regard. Why allow Bosworth to fight for an eliminator if they refused him a shot.... should have refused him before he fought the eliminator.
Lenny Daws beat Colin Lynes who had given Witter something to think about. Why not Daws? Not saying he would have won, but like Woodhouse - if he aint given the crack we'll never know.

Re: Woodhouse Vs Hamilton..
I don't know Stu, maybe the thinking was that Witter would soon be moving right out of that level and that it wasn't fair to deny other boxers a run out and earn a wage; I can see that there are discrepancies in how people are treated but it must be difficult to treat everyone fairly when there are different fighters/factors to consider - I imagine although there's a rule book things do get winged a bit.stujones wrote:Why allow Bosworth to fight for an eliminator if they refused him a shot.... should have refused him before he fought the eliminator.

I remember that when Alan retired there was a write up in Boxing News and he singled out Witter as being the very best he'd faced and that he couldn't do anything with him, also that he hit very hard with punches he didn't expect.

Its a volentary defence against a former english champ who got robbed if he hadn't he prob wud hav been made mandatory anyway. Just like ste smith picking selby look how that panned out selby didn't deserve a shot and look how his moved on since also remember hamilton came in at days notice to win the title with not a great record good luck curtis top man ( had a good 10 min chat with him at show not so long ago.)

You got two opponents to fight your will to entertain and tear up and Hamilton.
I really hope its your night and you make it happen.
Ryan is the man for the job I have a feeling we will see a different Woodhouse this time round.
Best of Luck.

Starting Friday with a nice 6 round warm up .......
Re: Woodhouse Vs Hamilton..
its a voluntary defence and good luck to curtis,if i was british champ i wouldnt pick daws because he would be one of the hardest out there. curtis has waited a long time to challenge for this title, banged on doors and shouted from the hill tops and now its here i wish him all the best, will be a very hard fight though mate.
