I have had alot to do with ticket sales with Ronnie Clark and to be his sales should be replicated by these glasgow fighters. scottish boxings Future
Re: scottish boxings Future
Re: scottish boxings Future
yea ive been to a few of them in the early days
maybe im just used to being from the years of Scott Harrison , Alex Arthur headlining shows and a few other decent scottish / English boxers or the undercard , those shows were pretty packed out.
Ricky Burns is doing it , but pretty much on his own now and none of the undercard fighters coming through really excite me , Simmons looks decent though

Thank goodness for Alex Morrison, Tommy Gilmour and Paul Graham.Without them it would be all over.Much the same as the rest of the country if we vote for independence!

Any news on the gorbals show, did it make the magic 400 number?
Re: scottish boxings Future
If scotland goes independant then surely our fighters would no longer be able to fight for british titles unless some strange rule was created. Although that would be a sad loss, it would surely make the lower regarded Scottish titles mean a little more.

It would probably make them a bit more relevant, only problem is that some weights you would struggle to get fights at, Gary Cornish is our only heavyweight and I think Simmons is the only CruiserweightEmmseegee wrote:If scotland goes independant then surely our fighters would no longer be able to fight for british titles unless some strange rule was created. In fact looking at the boxrec rankings we only have 4 boxers from Super middleweight upwards.bluenoseshf wrote:It would probably make them a bit more relevant, only problem is that some weights you would struggle to get fights at, Gary Cornish is our only heavyweight and I think Simmons is the only CruiserweightEmmseegee wrote:If scotland goes independant then surely our fighters would no longer be able to fight for british titles unless some strange rule was created. 1 Heavyweight
1 Cruiserweight
2 Light Heavyweights
1 Super middle
Can anyone think why this would be? Surely there must have been some decent amateurs around these weights that could have turned over in the last 5 years or so?

Dunno how many where there mate, naw good at counting me haha. But what I do know is the Slowey v Hughes fight was a belter!! Both left themselves open and the amount of leather landed was crazy! I agreed with Kenny Pringles score card and gave it to slowey by 1. The rest of the card was ok.bluenoseshf wrote:Any news on the gorbals show, did it make the magic 400 number?

What a joke. What the fornicate is the point of the promoter then?
Re: scottish boxings Future
tomassino I agree with what you say about promotors but the reality today is that most promotors just book the venue and organise the show and leave the boxers to sell the tickets and it doesnt matter whether the boxer is very good or crap the only thing the promotor is interested in is ticket sales I know its not what you want to hear but that is the fact of the matter with the majority of promotors today In some cases you never even see a poster about a forthcoming show which is ridiculous

I just find it weird. I mean, imagine a music promotors who doesn't promote his clients. It makes no sense. Morrison is just an old gangster trying to maintain power. It's a truly sad state of affairs. I wonder at those who defend such peoples positions. They are simply powerful leaches, not "promoters" at all.

Sounds rough for the fighters.
Re: scottish boxings Future
I think promoters get the blame a lot of the time. I'm not defending Morrison but he's a old man he probably can't promote the way he used too and he is probably not as familiar with modern promoting. I think this goes the same for Gilmour. Both kind of stuck in ways 20 years ago. End of the day is easy to get a promotors licence though. Pay a £10,000 bond and your on your way. There is money to be made but it's a difficult and not very rewarding job. Here I'm Scotland it looks like no one is really willing to take big risks. A good example is Prospects and Paul Graham they really try to promote there shows and Gary Reilly (Alba) really pushes promotions and I'm sure they would admit that they struggle. The problem with Scottish boxing is a few things but in my eyes the main one is that fighters are not willing to fight. By this I mean most good prospects will not fight each other and would rather fight a journeyman who is 4-22-1 for example. As a boxing fan not many people are interested in these kind of fights which in turn hits ticket sales.. For boxing to move forward in Scotland we need all promoters to work together. Encourage their fighter to take 50/50 fights or at least 60/40. Might take a few years but once there is a buzz again around boxing the shows will start selling out

It must be so tough for these aging promoters to perform once they are "past their prime". You are defending the indefensible. These old guys should fornicate of and stop leeching off the fighters that they no longer know how to promote. Anyone trying to run a business today as if it was 20 years ago needstheir head looked at.
How does Morrison maintain his position of power while no longer being capable of doing his job?

Re: scottish boxings Future
Who can promote these boxers?? Morrison would probably love to be retired just watching these shows but there is no one is Scotland coming through to take over from Morrison. I'm not defending him I have said before promotors should sell show and fighters should fight. Tell me though what's the alternative? I heard there was just over 300 at the Gorbals so Morrison probably lost money. Seemingly the main event was a cracker. If people have ideas how to promote boxing in Scotland better. Do it yourselves or contact the promotors offer to help??Tomasino wrote:daviddee wrote:I think promoters get the blame a lot of the time. Offer to help them make money? Morrison wouldn't be in it if he wasn't creaming some coin. It's blatantly obvious that they should simply PROMOTE! You know flyers, posters, website, advertising etc. doesn't Alex daughter promote? Is she too old and past it to do her job properly? Can't she work a computer?
In fact that makes no sense. Let's have the fighters do all the promoting too! Let these poor old guys go into semi retirement.
Re: scottish boxings Future
Maybe you should direct these questions to Morrison and his daughter. They both have Facebook. You don't seem to get it I agree. But there is no alternative

Re: scottish boxings Future
Correct me if I'm wrong but Alex Morrison is Ricky Burns manager and Eddie Hearn is his promoter?
I can only comment on our relationship with Tommy Gilmour and he made it quite clear when my brothers Lee and Matty , Darren Traynor and Marek Laskowski that he would be their manager.
When we run shows in Aberdeen it is up to us to ensure that there are posters and advertise the fights, but we run the shows under Granite City Promotions not Tommy Gilmour Promotions.
I also know that for our fighters to get work on the Prospect shows we have to sell enough tickets to pay for the cost of the bout. The wages for both my fighter and the opponent and any expenses for the away fighter. I know people will think this shouldn't be the case but that is the world we are living at the moment and without lots of TV shows it is hard to run shows without working this way.
