I might be well out with my figures but hopefully not too far away. So you organise the show and you don't sell tickets in advance. On the night it turns out its lashing with rain/there is a rail strike/Man U v Arsenal cup replay or Rangers v Celtic cup replay/ and 100 people turn up ! You've just lost £10,000.
Lot to think about isn't there.
Exactly the costs to run a show all add up and unless you have good level of sponsorship and a good day on the doors you could run into a big loss. The promotors do there best and i dont think there out of touch as some say- Morrison's interview got people talking about last sat on here and FB , Gilmour was advertising his last public card at Springburn on the big screen and so on.But both, along with PG are essential to Grass Roots up here . However one thing folk on this thread seem to be over looking is the problems with grass root level in scotland, is the same elsewhere in the UK
If your looking to target people to come to your show , Forums aint the place to come to and i would estimate only generate a small percentage of the tickets (maybe single figures), forums are full of the hardcore fans (who usually are your most important and loyal fans) some ex /current boxers and folk who think they know best and love to moan about every aspect the game ,and haters . Boxing fans can be the most unforgiving out there aswell, and that is from my own experience of using boxign forums for a while and sitting in the stands in shows all over the world i have attended.
I beleive The real movement to get folk to your show is Local Newspapers/ and online media esp social media as this gives you a direct line to the punters and making someone feel involved can sometimes make the difference i believe, and lastly boxing media. When i do what i do, i dont even bother with the big boys in the red tops cause i find there usually not interested unless its a televised fight or a fighter has had a brush with the law. But the online boxing media are the ones who i always find take an interest and if your a small promotor it can make a difference
some people will hate on this, i get that .i expect it on a Scottish boxing thread but this is just an observations of how i see things.
Plus there is a good card being put on in Jan in Paisley, by saltire promotions featuring 2 scottish title fights on the same night
