Quarterfinals
Yuri Arbachakov vs Fidel Bassa
Santos Laciar vs Nonito Donaire
Sot Chitalada vs Chatchai Sasakul
Omar Narvaez vs Miguel Canto
Who would win?
Flyweight GP
Re: Flyweight GP
Great matchups. All very close, IMO. Am tempted to say a prime Laciar, who had a great chin, outworks and SDs Donaire and Arbachakov, but somebody like Chitalada or Narvaez or Canto outboxes him in the finals. I could probably make an argument for any of the 8, except maybe Sasakul, winning

Re: Flyweight GP
I'd take Sasakul at his best over Narvaez.
They are some solid matchups, though.
Arbachakov/Bassa is particularly close, but I'd probably swing just in favor of Yuri. At least more often than not. Really good one to watch it'd definitely be, though.

Yuri Arbachakov
Nonito Donaire
Sot Chitalada
Miguel Canto (Clearest win of them all).

Re: Flyweight GP
Sasakul was great vs Arbachakov, so that version in one fight I might agree. But I'd take Narvaez most nights. I saw most of Narvaez's title fights at 112 and he was ridiculously skilled.King Carlos wrote:I'd take Sasakul at his best over Narvaez.

Re: Flyweight GP
Historically Canto is the greatest of the lot, no doubt, but it's tough to see him beating Chitalada at the latter's best. Just a bad styles matchup. A lot of people would be for the midget Canto. I could never see him beating someone like Zapata, for example, unless it was the version who'd just gotten out of prison that faced Chang in the rematch.
Re: Flyweight GP
Zapata would be hell for somebody like Canto who didn't have much of a punch. Could see Zapata sticking and sliding away from punches all night. Oguma was a taller southpaw (not as big as Zapata) with less talent and he gave Canto some tough fights. Laciar was also very short and beat Zapata, but Laciar had more pop at flyweight and I seem to remember that fight being really close fight and Laciar having to stay on the offensive for all 15 rounds.King Carlos wrote:Historically Canto is the greatest of the lot, no doubt, but it's tough to see him beating Chitalada at the latter's best. Chan Hee Park showed good fights against Canto.
