I was gutted the IBF stripped Jamie, but knowing how much money Dennis lost on the McDonnell title fight, i'm happy he gets a chance to get the belt in his stable again.

Great if Dennis gets a world champion for the North East, Boxing is on a up in the North east and thanks to Dennis putting his Nuts on the line we may well get a World champion, and the rebound will be great for the boxers up north, looking a cracking show cant wait. :TU:

I went to Jersey a few years ago to a Dennis Hobson promotion it was the Clinton Woods fight & Dennis Hobson took about 26 of us out for the evening prior to the contest. The man is a complete gentleman who loves his boxing & his fighters & its a shame this McDonnell business has left a bad taste in his mouth because he doesn't deserve it. He went out of his way to gain home advantage for Jamie & of course that cost him a lot of money, but as we all know, That's boxing for you.

FFS - you stupid ****

I get well and truly p*ssed off with posts like yours ... it is very rare boxing promoters break even on non TV shows. Whilst to a point I agree certain promoters are ****s, many of them, nope the majority of them have had to dig very deep to keep the promotional ship afloat.

Your post shows how ignorant you are to how the sport works behind the scenes.

If JoshuaMcArdle bothered to have a look at the accounts of most promoters he'd realise that they are actually losing money in today's climate.

The problem with casuals who are new to the sport is they think all boxing promoters are like Don King in the 1980s.

Nice attitude.

I don't believe that any boxing promoter is in the business for altruistic reasons.

They all seem to be doing ok out of it to me (and if they didn't they would soon go skint).

"Alturistic" - got to say I had to google that word and will now add that to my already excellent vocabulary!!

Whilst I agree with you that promoters may start in the sport thinking they may earn a few quid, they quickly realise how hard to have boxing promoting as a sole source of income.

Please tell me the promoters you think who have made a lot of money - keep the TV promoters out of it.

To make your task slgihtly harder, out of those non tv promoters name the promoters who have a decent headline fighter and still make money!!

I know at least 2 promoters who I have worked for who are delighted just to go even on a show.

If it was so easy to make good money as a pro promoter id have put my bond up a while ago, but in reality i cant currently afford to lose about 30 grand + , which is quite possibly the amount i could lose after just a couple of promotions. Which is why im still doing the unlicensed circuit, believe me id much prefer to move into the pro game.

Damian as a matter of interest forgetting boxers purses what difference in money terms is it between an unlicensed show and a board show as far as set up costs go etc I presume venue and ring and security hire are the same ?

The ring hire i believe is more expensive in the pro's , presumably because pro shows generally use bigger rings.
But things like Security and Referees are pretty similar, i pay £300 to my ref which is more than most pay but its to ensure i get the best ref out there, i know thats more than pro refs would get but then baring in mind my shows often have over 20 bouts, would likely need 3 pro refs anyway.
Obviously the Boards payments arent paid, I pay ring girls whereas a lot of pro shows will usually have them provided by a sponsor of some sort.
All in all the cost is probably very similar other than the boxers purses but then we give more percentage commission on the tickets than on a pro show.
For example a lad doing 100 tickets on my show would earn £1000 , which is around a similar mark to what they would get as a pro but then i can get their opponent for usually a maximum of £250 which i couldnt do as a pro.
the other aspect is with the lads who maybe only sell 50 tickets, if they sell 50 tickets at £25 and they keep a tenner as their wage from each ticket (£500) that leaves £750 to pay the opponent and put into the pot towards the rest of the show, in the pro's id be looking at paying at least double that combined figure , so the £750 outlay suddenly becomes around £1800 which those tickets wouldnt cover and therefore nothing put into the pot either, on an unlicensed show its still a profitable bout but in the pro's it would be making a loss.
