3 Tyson Fury 559 21(15)-0-0: bad and unlucky year for Tyson. Could have been an all-time great pay day against Haye but things did not go his way. His next fight is vital for Tyson. Mick has to deliver
4 Ricky Burns 458 36(11)-2-1: Lucky year for Ricky Burns. He should not be a world champion anymore but fair play to him for fighting with a broken jaw. Proper though man. Had to improve next year to keep his belts
5 Martin Murray 416 25(11)-1-1: great fight against Sergio and did himself proud. Way to inactive for a top class fighter, easy win ahead at the weekend
6 Dereck Chisora 405 19(13)-4(1)-0: super year for Del. Got himself right back in the title mix with four TKO. Fair play to him and hopefully Frank can get him a major fight in February.
7 Darren Barker 363 26(16)-2(2)-0: retirement next but what a year. Fair play to Darren with all the cash in the bank but Murray and Macklin are probably better fighters.
8 Amir Khan 352 28(19)-3(2)-0: one average performance and now more than likely Mayweather. This is the bad side of boxing.
9 Tony Bellew 345 20(12)-2(1)-1: Two solid performances against an awkward Chillemba but blown away by a top class superman. Important to get more power when he moves up in weight
10 Frankie Gavin 342 17(12)-0-0: progressing well but it is surely time for a big fight for the classy boxer Gavin

14 Brian Rose 318 25(7)-1(1)-1:awsume year. He would of not been in my top fifty this time last year. Eddie Hearn has done a great job with him.
15 James DeGale 315 17(11)-1-0 :who? Great potential but has to stop fighting in shopping centre’s and he knows that himself
16 Matthew Macklin 310 30(20)-5(3)-0 : fought a beast and had a solid win. Fourth time lucky maybe for Matthew

Carl had a great start to the year, beating Martinez comfortably in february, but since then? He has had one fight against an unknown, imported tin can; he's seen the guy he outclassed both get a shot and win a world title; he's seen his number 1 domestic rival claim a "world title" while; he's moved from having a wide exposure on the Sky network to the max 100k subscribers on BN; he has nothing lined up for 2014 as yet - it seems Quigg is closing in on unification with Martinez ahead of him. As years go, 2013 has been close to a write off for Carl.

A wee question mate, do the Northern Irish get the same backing from the U.S as the boxers from Southern Ireland do? That would be a massive bonus for him when it comes to fighting for the major titles and the money that can be earned over there?

There are too many fighters for whom it always seems to be about the fight after the next fight. Carl has been big news for a while, but 2013 has seen his progress stall. I'd say injury was just a small part of that. Big fights are said to be just round the corner, but who? Rigondeaux, Martinez, Quigg, Santa Cruz are either all too dangerous, matchroom fighters or already committed elsewhere. Could dig up a Darchinyan or a Montiel and pretend they are relevant, I suppose.
