Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
Ali stoppage in 8 or 9.
EDIT: Actually on second thoughts from re-watching Jeffries I reckon I could beat him, Ali probably earlier than I first thought.

These old timers were good for their time but would be in serious trouble against the modern heavyweight.

Muhammad Ali

Didn't Jefferies die in '53..when Ali was 11?Il Duce wrote:James J. Jeffries
"I'm a 'Hay Baler'. A strong farm boy who is used to the heat and heavy air. Muhammad's lungs will
be burning here in Reno. His 'type' are not used to long drag out bouts."
"I've been hit by Farm-Plows, 'angry' Bulls and Plow-Horses, and have never tasted dirt. I'm not sure
if Muhammad knows what its like to fight a man like me."
"I ain't no small-guy like Joe Frazier. I'm twice as strong as Joe, and look at what he did to him.
Frazier didn't even have a right-hand worth a handful of Alfalfa Sprouts."
Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
What makes this interesting is not knowing how Ali would fare over more than 15 rounds. Over 15,he wins with ease, and a younger Ali would certainly stop him. How would Ali do in the last ten? Probably fine. He was a superbly conditioned athlete, and an expert at adapting his game to the challenge, but it's still a question mark.

[quote="Il Duce"]Likeness
Oscar Bonavena comes to mind. A forward charging 'Clubbing-Bull'.
But Oscar was 5' 10" and 205 lbs., while 'Big Jeff' was 6' 0 1/2" and 219 lbs.
Physically similar, but Jeffries was bigger and much stronger.[/quote
I think Jefferies was a bit taller than that...I do not see any similarities in their style at all?

I'm not at sea without a rudder however I cannot say definitively. My records have always showed at 6ft 1 1/2. You may be correct. Cannot see the similarity with Bonavena i'm afraid tho...Il Duce wrote:Evren B
Sometimes you are 'correct', and other times you're like 'a ship at sea without a rudder'.
If Robert Fitzsimmons was 5' 11 1/2", how tall is James J. Jeffries........... :??
Explain...

Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
Chuvalo maybe also....will have to review my footage of Jefferies. It's such a different age isn't it. I do not go by the theory that old timers had no chance against todays. It was just a very different style and sport then. . .It was like 30 minutes of fighting spread over 25 rounds..Il Duce wrote:When trying to compare an opponent that Muhammad Ali fought, that would most closely
resemble James J. Jeffries in style and size.
Oscar 'Ringo' Bonavena would probably be the closest.
'Resemble' but not identical.
Tough, rugged and burly.
Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
It would be a slower pace for Ali. He’d have a good lead going into those final ten rounds. Jeffries would the close the gap but probably wouldn’t get in close enough to win it.
A lot will come down to how Jeffries fares with being hit so often by a bigger man than he’s used to fighting. If Jeffries is still made of granite and he can apply effective pressure he has a chance.

Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
Ali toys with Jeffries, talks sh*t, slaps him around, and stops him sometime after 8 rounds.
Easy night's work.
Easy night's work.
Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
Would Jeffries wear Ali down? I don't think so... But it would be a good fight to watch.

Well.......I imagine Rudi, and many many others can't help but chuckle robustly whenever "Ill Douche" is mentioned.
Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
Now he's making up quotes from a man who was dead before Ali or George Foreman were even heard of
Re: James J. Jeffries vs. Muhammad Ali '25-Rounds'
Ali wins every round and takes it 250-225 on all cards.
Jeffries: "I guess Jack Munroe wasn't the tune up I needed..."
Ali: "He doesn't hit as hard as Foreman or Shavers but he was tougher than Rudi Lubbers."
Il Duce: Starts 165 threads on how...
Jeffries was "got to" by the Black Panthers
had his drink bottle drugged by Malcolm X
was over the hill, washed up, worn down
the referee was paid off
Ali committed 17 fouls in round 21
at 0:24 of round 16 Jeffries clearly staggers Ali with a jab but the ref calls a halt to mop up some water in the corner
Jeffries main sparring partner Wimpy Halstead was a plant by Ali to undermine the Jeffries game plan
Jeffries only trained for a week and a half before the fight
the judges were members of the Nation of Islam
when called on his usual crap, Il Duce forges ahead with a barrage of imaginary quotes and refuses to engage in any meaningful conversation...

Except that's not Jeffries (or Fitzsimmons for that matter). That's a reenactment. They tried to film the fight, but the films didn't turn out . . .Controversial wrote:Ali stoppage in 8 or 9.

There is Charlie Zelenoff style insanity going on in boxers of the past.
Why make up quotes from fighters? It's truly insane.

It really is. I think that's why so many people object to his presence here. BOTP was usually the one section of the forum that had integrity and intelligent Boxing Discussion for the most part.Tomasino wrote:There is Charlie Zelenoff style insanity going on in boxers of the past.

It's funny that you should say that, because Gus Ruhlin, Joe Choynski, Tom Sharkey, Bob Armstrong and Jack Johnson all 'survived his mauling and belly-smashes'.Il Duce wrote:James J. Jeffries
