Julio Garcia correction
Julio Garcia correction
They just showed the Julio Garcia/Kirino Garcia bout on Fox Sports Net again. It was a split decision in favor of Julio Garcia, but boxrec has it a UD in favor of Julio.
Here's an explanation on that story.
The fight was over, decision time came around, somehow it took what seemed like an eternity to tally the cards. What could possibly be the holdup? It was a 9-3 victory for Julio in my very unofficial card, but with the judging that takes place in some venues, who can be sure? Finally, the decision is announced as a SD, and a very loud gasp was heard from the fans.
Judge Al Wilensky was the one that had supposedly voted 118-111 for Kirino, when this was announced he ran to the Commission's table and a lively discussion ensued. As it turned out the judge had mixed up the names, to Wilensky's credit he owed up to the mistake, to the Commission's credit the error was corrected.
It is my understanding that this was not clarified for the television audience.
