I think I'd take Jeffries. Provided he was able to survive the early onslaught of Jack (that's a big if, because Dempsey would be on that mahfucka like white on rice) I think Jeffries would take a hell of a shellacking in the first 4 or 5 rounds, and most likely tasting canvas a few times and bleeding pretty heavily, but after those early rounds. Because of the extremely fast pace that Dempsey always sets out the gate, it's hard for me to imagine that he would be able to hang with Jeffries Stamina in the later rounds, and I think Jeffries would slowly start to take him apart with his strength and greater endurance down the stretch. Stopping him in the 17th round, of a hellacious brawl.

Pardon my Englishness, but what does white on rice mean?

It basically just means he'd be in his face like son of a bitch, rarely giving him time to breathe or think.

Rice is White...and it's on there ya know what I mean  . There are other expressions of a similar nature, but for some reason none of them are coming to me at the moment.

A much better match up. 1902 vs 1974 Jeffries vs Ali is unfair to both. If Ali was in his prime in 1902, many of his skills would not be there. If Jeffreis was in his prime in 1974, he would have more of a modern look to him. This makes sense to me.

This match up is close enough in time. Dempsey himself said if he fought Jeffries he'd get his chin knocked off, and felt that he ( Jeffries ) was the best of the time.

Dempsey himself said Jeffries would have beaten him. But fighters say a lot of things for a lot of different reasons. Jeffries was a big fan of Dempsey.

Yeah, sometimes fighters say something like that to be nice.
I think I would have to lean toward Dempsey to stop Jeffries in about 10 rounds. However, if Jeffries could could last a bit longer he would have the edge. Dempsey only went 15 rounds once and Jeffries had phenomenal stamina.
