Showtime Card 12/14
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
Shumenov already cracked Kovac in the 1st round with a big left hook knockdown.
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
Shumenov is a total phony champ, and him vs Hopkins doesn't interest me at all.

Because Hopkins is the real champ?crusader wrote:Shumenov is a total phony champ, and him vs Hopkins doesn't interest me at all.
I'm not saying it's the fight of the century or anything, but I see them as two top contenders. As far as matching fighters goes, it's about a good a selection as I could see, barring Stevenson, the actual champ, or Kovalev of course.
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
Damn sad he wasn't even on the prelim show.SouthpawStephen wrote:Bad Intentions got himself a 7th round TKO earlier on the card. Good for him.
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
Even if you consider holding a title = being a champion, Shumenov holds a title only because of a robbery. The fact that he's one of the better possible opponents doesn't make the fight interesting; he's still well below the top level imo.Bobbyptsd wrote:Because Hopkins is the real champ?crusader wrote:Shumenov is a total phony champ, and him vs Hopkins doesn't interest me at all.

Yeah but I don't care about the titles, that was kind of my point. I see them as contenders.crusader wrote:Even if you consider holding a title = being a champion, Shumenov holds a title only because of a robbery. I see your point about the Campillo situation, but as it stands, I do think he is right there in that next tier with guys like Hopkins now. I'm not saying I think he'd beat him, I just mean it's a decent match up is all. He's a level above a guy like Murat, in my view.
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
I'm not as high on Santa Cruz as some. I've never seen what is supposed to be special about him. Little Margarito is a pretty good description, in a one dimensional kind of way.
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
I would agree he's above the likes of Murat, and that was actually a pretty exciting fight by B-Hop standards.Bobbyptsd wrote: Yeah but I don't care about the titles, that was kind of my point. I see them as contenders.

Re: Showtime Card 12/14
So far Seda isn't looking like the massive underdog that the bookies have him listed as.
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
Well I meant, not as a compliment. It seems like he gets a lot of attention for a guy who at the absolute top level, will get beat I believe.SouthpawStephen wrote:Bobbyptsd wrote:I'm not as high on Santa Cruz as some. What other way would it be?
I mean I know he's an action fighter, and I'm not saying he's bad or anything stupid like that. I just don't think he's special, for a super bantam who gets a lot of press.

I don't really care much about titles either, and I don't care much about who the champion supposedly is; you mention that Stevenson is the real champion by some criteria (that probably involves a belt of some sort) but I think Kovalev is the best in the division.Yeah but I don't care about the titles, that was kind of my point. I don't think Shumenov is a level above Murat. Murat-Shumenov would actually be a very well-matched bout.

@Stephen
I suppose that's true, it can definitely take you places.

Seda is 2 lbs heavier than Santa Cruz, it's not SC's fault the guy isn't as good as himvictor-romeo wrote:Seda has the guts but not the size or punching power not really a fair fight..
Re: Showtime Card 12/14
It involves a belt, but more importantly the whole: "man who beat the man" thing. If Pascal had been stripped before his second fight with Hopkins, it's not like we'd be lost now, we'd still know, we've seen it before. I think it's pretty clear that Stevenson is the champ. Though I understand that the best fighter can often be someone else, as you show with your opinion of Kovalev.crusader wrote:I don't really care much about titles either, and I don't care much about who the champion supposedly is; you mention that Stevenson is the real champion by some criteria (that probably involves a belt of some sort) but I think Kovalev is the best in the division.Yeah but I don't care about the titles, that was kind of my point. I don't care about the weight look at the height the size of the shoulders and arms, cruz looks like larger person..Diamond WEAPON wrote:Seda is 2 lbs heavier than Santa Cruz, it's not SC's fault the guy isn't as good as himvictor-romeo wrote:Seda has the guts but not the size or punching power not really a fair fight..

Yeah, I didn't mean that I don't like his style or personality, he seems like a hard worker and a quiet guy who takes care of business, good things. And a guy who comes to put punches together, as we've mentioned.SouthpawStephen wrote:Yeah... and especially if you can make your opponent fight your fight. But I agree that an elite level boxer should be able able beat him. But for now, I think he looks pretty good. I like his attitude as well.Bobbyptsd wrote:@Stephen

Re: Showtime Card 12/14
It still all goes back to belts though, which you apparently don't care much about. I'm far more concerned with how good the fighters are and not certain labels they have like 'champion' or 'titilist'. The only reason I originally mentioned Shumenov being a phony champion is because him vs Hopkins will be a unification, and he doesn't deserve to call himself a WBA champ of any sort.Bobbyptsd wrote:It involves a belt, but more importantly the whole: "man who beat the man" thing. Paulie is giving rounds to Seda for "having boxing ability"
No wonder he thinks he beat Broner, he has no idea how boxing is scored.

@Crusader
I would agree with that, as far as the unification thing goes, it's meaningless.

Santa Cruz is the god damn mustache-wearing man.
