Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
To further add, I am so anti-gear that I compete at British Championship level with the only lifetime natural organisation in the UK. You can never have used steroids and performance enhancers and use of DMAA gets you suspended, thats all. Think about it - we cannot have ever used anything that takes away our natural status and we sit polygraphs to check, and this does not see us ineligible.
Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
That's good for the sport and I'm sure I read somewhere that polygraphs are not 100% reliable - it'd be a real shame if a clean athlete were banned for giving a false positive on a polygraph.tobyh5 wrote:To further add, I am so anti-gear that I compete at British Championship level with the only lifetime natural organisation in the UK. Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
I had the same thought and asked Jon, the feds Drug Control Officer about it and he answered that the tests were something like 98.6% accurate. I pointed out that would mean one person could fail in every 100 tested as that is logic surely. I cannot recall his exact answer to be honest but it did make me more confident within it. Apologies that I cannot recall the exact way it works. We also sit urine tests.
It is not a perfect system but as a sport, bodybuilding is unique that we have alternatives. You can use PED, you can dose up to the eyeballs and still compete. You can inject whatever the hell you want and it is fine as most feds do not test and through this openness and acceptance of it we then can have a "Natural" alternative.
Bodybuilding is rife with it, so we have the natural off shoot.
Cycling for example and most Olympic sports are also rife with it but sadly they pretend it is not happening and so cannot have a natural alternative. To have a Natural Tour De France would be to admit the actual tour is still a drug fest and they will not allow that.

I've never heard of that. Who are they? Ps not doubting it by the way just curious.tobyh5 wrote:I had the same thought and asked Jon, the feds Drug Control Officer about it and he answered that the tests were something like 98.6% accurate. You're outdated. The Tour de France is basically clean now with the new biological passports. The Armstrong era is pretty much over. Average speeds are down. Chris Froome was a clean winner.tobyh5 wrote:I had the same thought and asked Jon, the feds Drug Control Officer about it and he answered that the tests were something like 98.6% accurate. Do you mean the drug control officer? Or the fed?
The FED is the NPA - Natural Physique Association. We also have the BNBF and the UKDFBA which are different in that you need to be a certain number of years drug free rather than lifetime natural like the NPA.
The officer is the chap who is in charge of the tests and organisation of working to ensure we are drug free, upholding the integrity of the fed and trying to catch anyone who does cheat as some do, even though they have alternatives.
As for the comments on the Tour De France, sure sure, all clean

Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
The point I am making is that DMAA, which Rios has been found to have used is not a steroid and not even that naughty at all. I have not used it so cannot speak of how it does feel to take it however I am great friends with fellow bodybuilders and I asked one about it this morning just to clarify before posting and he assured me, having used it a couple times before it was banned that it does next to nothing and he gets just as big a boost going into training off the espresso.
And all the articles I have read on it suggest that to be the case, that it does little for you at all. Heck there are tons of still legal pre-workout supps that you can take that do not have it and they give you just as much boost, even coffee as I have already said.

Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
Yeah but there's different kind of performance enhancers to be fair. Some help you put on lean mass, some make you more alert, some help you cut weight *diuretics* and so on.tobyh5 wrote:The point I am making is that DMAA, which Rios has been found to have used is not a steroid and not even that naughty at all. Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
Quite right sir and in this instance, it is close to nothing at all.
Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
I agree with your posts, but DMAA must do something because it was killing people before it was banned.tobyh5 wrote:Quite right sir and in this instance, it is close to nothing at all.
Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
Victor Conte who knows far more about this stuff than I do *because he was supplying it in the past* says that DMAA is a performance enhancer. It helps your reaction time and so on apparantly.

The BBBofC should fine users big sums and use the dosh to pay for testing.
you only pay it back if you want to come back and box again, so larry who just came back was ment to pay back all his previous purses.
Re: Brandon Rios - failed drugs test
I am not sure if it was really killing people, think that was a knee jerk reaction. There was mixed scientific evidence on this.Einherjar wrote:I agree with your posts, but DMAA must do something because it was killing people before it was banned.tobyh5 wrote:Quite right sir and in this instance, it is close to nothing at all.
I disagree with Conte having spoken to people who have taken it. He may know far more than you sir but considerably less than the people I am in contact with.columbo wrote:Victor Conte who knows far more about this stuff than I do *because he was supplying it in the past* says that DMAA is a performance enhancer.
