Not sure he was considered washed up? Quarry was actually counted out but was wining the fight however it was a highly contentious stoppage, Quarry was furious claiming he couldn't hear the count and thought he got up at 9 with only seconds to spare in the round.

His Chuvalo moment was a robbery.....but Jerry had it coming even by his own admission, as he made a mistake.....mistake or no...he owned it. But he was winning the fight....and probably would have won had he paid better attention...or not had that moment of bad luck.

The Frazier fight was a classic.....no shame in getting beaten by that walking land mine. And as you all have pointed out, Quarry came back and offered up some great stuff after that.

So as is typical....El DoChew is running his comedy act again. Hell, he might be worth a cover charge at a stand up comedy club. He's worked up some funny material. It's why I stay tuned. I wasn't mad at his geometry thread, just thought those tidbits could be worked into his ongoing threads rather than take up further real estate. I would say that Jerry was in very good physical condition, but had been 'run-through-the-mill'.

Sounds the ideal opponent for someone out of the ring for 3.5 years. Lesser fighters would've eased their way back in. Bonavena in his next fight then challenged Frazier for the title. Maybe, like Holmes against Tyson, the lack of warm up fights was why Frazier beat him, still had a bit of ring rust.

then you too would think he was as close to worn out as possible.

In 1966, a young Jerry Quarry took out George Johnson with 'one' single punch.

Hot-n-cold = inconsistent. The definition of being inconsistent is he had off nights, can look great in some fights, bad in others. Who'd have thought Buster Douglas would be undisputed heavyweight champion after watching him being stopped by Tucker or Mike White. Quarry was good enough to beat the unbeaten Lyle and stop Shavers in one round in 1973 so still cannot see how he looked in one fight is relevant for the Ali fight in 1970?
