Favourite boxing writers/ Boxing sites

one being overlooked is Shaun Brown, has consistantly produced informative articles and has featured across a lot of media.

a lot of the redtops dont have boxing spricifc reporters and usually cover it amongst golf and Tennis ....so dont bother to be hoenast and get it from the web - Boxrec/ Livefight and at a push BS .... but they dont cover boxing as much detail as i would liek ... there coverage of SH shows in the uk is non existance .... i work in that field so i maybe are biased to be honest

I guess their argument would be that there's not enough interest. To flip that around though, is there not enough interest because there's not enough coverage? It's one of those chicken and the egg situations.

Terry Dooley is excellent but elitist - more usernames than hot dinners. I don't read Boxing News anymore, but like listening to Tris and Matt Christie's podcasts. Chris Walker is very knowledgable too, as is Danny Wright and Ian McNeilly.

I grew up reading Graham Houston and still feel he's the best preview writer out there. Doug Fischer, ex Max Boxing, always provided some excellent insight but I've lost touch with him since his move to The Ring.

I love Terry's articles. Doug Fisher used to be good, but I haven't read anything decent from him in a long time. I think these days he's taking more of an editorial role and giving far too much attention to his bi-weekly mailbags.

BS is annoying because you can't copy and paste the text (useful in an office environment). I hate the black background in Boxing News and every article carries far too much opinion, which far too often is borderline ludicrous.

sites....i post on about 12 boxing forums, they are the ones i use most...boxrec is fav though, well im a stat guy, forum very goo as there are not many crazy guys on here

I tend to get more and more of my information from social media, videos and podcasts as opposed to the written or print media these days, mainly because I am on the tube a lot and find it hard to read there, but easy to sit back and listen.

Leading the way for me at the moment is Don McRae, if he has a feature in something I will go out of my way to buy it. I stopped my sub to Boxing News because it was all too predictable, safe and “samey” Dixon/Dennen/Flexen are homogenous as far as I am concerned but I like Matt Christie on their podcast. However, if I hear McRae has a piece in BN then I’ll divert my walk home via WH Smiths. I’m happy to read anything by Bob Mee as well.

I now have a sub to Boxing Monthly, mainly for Glyn Leach’s editorial but also for Buncey’s articles, I also subscribe to Buncey’s podcast (and allegedly).

There are plenty of “on line” lads that are breaking through that turn in quality copy but Terry Dooley for me if the best of these. Funny, honest and insightful. Cant ask for much more.

I get about five guys a month asking if they can write for me, or should I say that site. But they want to do 20k words on Mayweather and Broner etc. I tell them have a look at Steve Wellings fight previews and reports – if you can turn something like that in then I’m interested. Also of the Irish guys Kevin Byrne and Ciaran Gallagher and making a name for themselves with the limited space they get in their papers.

I've been a fan of Boxing News and Boxing Monthly for something approaching 20 years. (I'm only 39.) I must say having emigrated to Australia in 2010, that being able to download the magazines onto iPads and iPhones is a God send. I thought the mags were pretty much history for me.

Eric Amit's columns for Boxrec News are great for a quick roundup of the worlds action, how he gets the time to have a look at all of these fights is beyond me.

Bob Mee, Donald McRae, Ian McNeilly, Glyn Leach, Andrew Wake and Terry Dooley are some others that always write something worth reading.

Used to be a big fan of Boxing News but much prefer Boxing Monthly now and think the standard of writing is far higher. Boxing news just seems a bit bland now unfortunately.

Was Goldstein the one who wrote the piece on Kovalev and Provodinkov for BM? I stopped reading that after a paragraph. Bit OTT for me.

Have to agree, trying too hard for a Red Smith /Jimmy Cannon style of voice and it gets in the way of the story.
In short, too verbose.

Andrew Harrison in last month's BM is excellent, Graham Houston is still The King.
