Champions whose only losses were to other champions.
Champions whose only losses were to other champions.
I'm looking for a listing of former champions whose only losses (or draws) were to other champions for their entire career. In any weight class. I don't think the list will be that long.
Linear/WBC/WBA/IBF only. I can't get any more complicated than that.
E.G.
*Foreman does not make the cut by virtue of his loss to Jimmy Young and Shannon Briggs
*Frazier does not make the cut by virtue of his draw to Jumbo Cummings
*Ali Makes the Cut only due to the fact that Norton actually held the WBC belt even if it was given to him. Berbick Held the WBC title as well.

.....it sounds like an impressive list, but when ingemar johansenn is the first name i think of it loses a little luster.
joe louis, on the other hand, brightens things up a bit.
jim jeffrfies and gene tunney also add luster.
the tough thing is to find boxers in the smaller divisions...usually had more fights and so many in past era fought over thre weight matches. so tough, in fact, that i don't think i'll dig for them, though i'll be watcing this thread with interrest.

Re: Champions whose only losses were to other champions.
I'm just nitpicking here, but technically George Foreman was the linear champ when he lost to Shannon Briggs, even though all his titles had been stripped. Because of this, some people (including myself), count Shannon Briggs as the linear champ from the time he beat Foreman until the time he lost to Lennox Lewis. That said, it doesn't matter at all because as you already pointed out, Foreman lost to Jimmy Ellis as well. Just attempting to clarify a little bit.BoxBuzz wrote:I'm looking for a listing of former champions whose only losses (or draws) were to other champions for their entire career. In any weight class. Should it count if the person who beats you gets only YOUR title, but manages to defend it successfully at least once?Tantum wrote:Lennox Lewis?
It doesn't count when the person who beats you gets YOUR title, and only your title.
You could try to claim Rahman, because he was just handed the WBC belt...
But Oliver McCall was never the champ before he beat Lennox, nor did he gain a title after beating Lennox.
Or does it have to be a completely different title all together?
rahman got beat by tua.mccall became wbc champ when he beat lennox.Tantum wrote:Lennox Lewis?

He meant that you could say that Lewis was beat by a champ in Rahman, because Rahman just got back the WBC belt.dalek wrote:rahman got beat by tua.mccall became wbc champ when he beat lennox.Tantum wrote:Lennox Lewis?

His point was that it doesn't count as losing to a champ if the only belt the guy won was from you. So, in the case of McCall, who never had another belt besides the one he got from Lewis, it wouldn't count as Lewis losing to a champion. In the case of Rahman, because he just got a belt that he didn't get from lewis, it would count as losing to a champion.dalek wrote:well i don't get you!rahman was a champ anyway when ko'ing lennox.
