Del Flanagan is one of the greatest contenders of all time. One of the best fighters that have never won a world title.

Definitely not top 50, but definitely belongs in the IBHOF.

Herman Mills who worked with a lot of Chicago fighters as a trainer including myself, fought him in 1949.
He talked about him and his brother all the time. they formed a friendship after they fought. Herman went out to visit him on occasion. He used to talk about what a terrific fighter he was as well as a very nice man.
I was left with the impression that they both were very classy people. That counts a great deal.

I watch Flanagan fight live on TV. A classy boxer he was. Not sure about a top 50 though

He had kind of an interesting career that is hard to get a handle on. As mentioned previously, he had some very good wins. He had a busy career with fights against opponents with a wide range of ability. What hurts his case is that he lost several times against less than great fighters. However, that can be partially be excused because he fought so often and sometimes had little time between fights.

Top 50 is a big stretch. Top 100 is probably too high, though at least arguable. Certainly a fighter that does not get discussed nearly enough.

Had some solid wins but his win over Saddler was questionable and a lot of times he won ugly. Very good boxer and exemplified what a great deep era it was for fighters in the 135-160 range, but he wouldn't make my top 50 . . . top 100 is more suitable.
