This Christmas morning there seems to be a lump of coal in my stocking - it seems that the Google News Archive has been taken down. I'm really disappointed and fear that it might be gone for good. I found it to be such a valuable tool for researching old boxing news. I really hope it comes back better than ever.

Google News Archive Search
Re: Google News Archive Search
You mean this site?
Re: Google News Archive Search
Interesting, Ric. Looks like scans are still up and thus good information is still apparently accessible. But I was talking about the archive search, where you input specific criteria (say "Joe Frazier" and "1976" as a start date and "1978" as an end) and it brings you a list a newspaper articles on that subject during those dates; from there you can click on the link and look at the scan of the newspaper.
I've used the Google News Archive Search numerous times over the past couple of years, and discovered it was no longer up while looking for info on Joe Frazier's proposed 1977-1978 comeback.

Re: Google News Archive Search
On December 16, 2013, a Google News employee stated in Google Product Forums that Google News is "performing a much needed facelift on our News Archive search function," and that access to archived stories would be gone for several months while "this new system" is being built.[5] As of December 17, 2013, current news articles at news.google.com/newspapers are still available for browsing.

Re: Google News Archive Search
Still works for me, just go to "custom" then enter a date range
Re: Google News Archive Search
Controversial,
Are you able to actually retrieve any articles? The actual search function works for me, but no articles come up. I just tried "Cassius Clay" (without the quotes) with dates from 1960 through 1964 and I got:
Your search - "Cassius Clay" - did not match any news results.
DaveyMac's quote (thanks for posting it, BTW) is seen in my link in my first post.

Re: Google News Archive Search
site:google.com/newspapers "harry greb" - to get this resultSearching within Google News won’t show results older than 30 days, so make sure that you use web search when searching for older articles. Note that Google Web Search doesn’t support custom date ranges earlier than 1970 or content behind a paywall.
Search newspaper archives
To locate an article from a scanned newspaper, go to http://www.google.co.uk and type in site:google.co.uk/newspapers, followed by the search terms that you would like to use. For example, if you’re searching for a scanned article on the harry greb, you would type in:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site% ... e&ie=UTF-8
Unfortunately the date function ain't a feature but better than nothing
Re: Google News Archive Search
