The media are to blame. Local, online, national, international, and television. Decent journalists could ruin the credibility of the non-titles with ease if they put on something even approaching a united front.

They are not the only ones ... the promoters advertise these so called titles on their posters to get the fans to buy the tickets!!

I might sound a bit peculiar here but I would literally jump for joy if any paper - local, regional or national - would run a headline on an article for a show of the type under discussion in this thread, along the lines of "shameful attempt to dupe fans with bogus championship fight". I would honestly jump for joy.

There are some unlicensed who could operate at a low level as a pro. None would be anywhere near top class or they would have gone pro very quickly i.e Blackwell and Purdy.

Not always the case,
For example there is no professional Boxing promoter operating in Nottingham, whatsoever.

The only lads who can turn pro are the very top lads or journeymen, thats not only from the white collar scene but the amateurs as well.
Theres several pro's who i know personally who are having to barely ever fight and are close to calling it a day as they have no one to put them on a show.
They get the occasional run out and thats it, those lads who can shift over 100 tickets might not be able to sell enough in the likes of derby or Leicester, i know its not particularly far but when they arent getting the fights they arent building up support, sometimes they have to box in the away corner, risking a loss, that also effects their potential ticket sales.

I assure you, as has been said before, if i had the finances to do so id take out a promoters license, but right now im in college, im planning a wedding, and i have kids , im not in a position to do it, but if someone was willing to build it up and not just do a couple of shows and then move on, then there would be a good amount of Nottingham lads turning pro, but right now theres no point as they can see from those already pro that theres no motivation to bother doing it.

The lads may not be the Next Froch etc, but theres certainly more than enough who can have a good crack at the pro's and do themselves as much justice as some of the names that get spoken about on here, theres lads who are stagnating and not achieving their potential by not turning over, but theres no positive outlook for pro boxing in Nottingham right now.

I have got to disagree with the above - the lads who take part in these events are following their dreams - just like you Curtis.

The only difference is that you have many more advantages than they have.

These lads probably work all day, train at night and have to sell tickets to their mates for their night of glory with very little or no prospect of going any further.

Not having a go here, but I remember watching your first fight on tv (how many get that opportunity?) and the standard was pretty much as I would expect on a white collar show.

I assume that after years as a footballer, your were able financially to pack it in and train full time as a boxer - the vast majority of people are not able to do this.

As a footballer, you hade a name and a "gimmick" that got you a lot of publicity (such as debut fight on terrestrial tv) - very few have that opportunity.

Also, because of the above a trainer, manager, promoter etc. were willing to take you on - again, the average bloke who fancies giving the sport a go would not get the same treatment.

I understand that you have worked your balls off to get where you are, but you did not start from the same starting point as other boxers.

As I said at the beginning, they are just trying to do what you are doing - have a night of glory and living the dream, why should they be denied that ?

He's probably capable of winning, but it means absolutely nothing except a green square on Boxrec if he does.
