Jr World and Youth Wolrd Usa Predictions and Results 2014

Post by scallum »

Exactly 2 weeks from tomorrow both of these events get underway at same venue. I will be attending and will do my best to provide results on as many fights as possible. Going be must see tv at Youth 114, 123, 141 and 152. Gonna be interesting to see how the 4 returning Jr Team members do coming back to try and make team again. Will try n find time soon to look at Rosters and give my predictions on who will win each weight class .

Just realized that @ 125 Jr division Deven Haney and Evan Sanchez are both entered at the weight. Both were members of Team Usa 2013 and both were underage. Evan was only 15 and it looks like Deven was only 14 going against 16 yr olds. Gonna be very interesting to see who comes out on top. Edit. Looks like Evan was only 14 too competing vs 16 yr olds

Youth
Light Flyweight
Golden Gloves champion Nico Hernandez will be favoured to take this title.Runner up last year he can add to his long list of titles.Dangers abound though especially Texans Pablo Ramirez and Luis Delgado.Jordan White is perhaps the best of the boxers moving up from the Juniors.11 of my top twelve boxers are competing here so there is quality everywhere.Damien Charles if he enters would be a serious threat
Flyweight
Shakur Stevenson comes here as World Junior Champ and was most impressive there.I hope Antonio Vargas registers as he was impressive in foreign tournaments in 2013 and could trouble Stevenson/
Tyrone Arzeno was the open age golden gloves runner up earlier in the year and Chris Colbert was the 2012 Junior Olympic champion and therefore is very capable.Bruce Carrington is another to look out for
Bantamweight
Carlos Balderas and Francisco Martinez stand out for me but there is real quality at this weight Isidro Ochoa,Antonio Williams,Efren Lopez and Hector Tajanara have all won lots of tournaments and could win here.Ruben Villa has not registered but is very talented.
Lightweight
Michael Nelson gets a narrow vote here but I will be expecting a good challenge from Kelvin Davis and Xavier Martinez
Lightwelter
Christian Bermudez won the junior Olympics in 2012 with Keona Adric emulating him a year later and they have to be the frontrunners.
Brandon Trejo and Jonathan Navarro are perhaps the best of the rest.
Welterweight
This is tricky as it is hard to choose a winner.I give a slight edge to Alexis Rocha over Fabian Alvarado but if he registers, Marco Magdaleno would be a serious challenger as would Mark Reyes
Middleweight
I like Jazavian Palmer here but Charles Conwell,Ricky Fausto and Nate Kinsman are dangerous
Lightheavy
Furgan Raschke looks the best of those registered but I think Elvis Figueroa or Sharif Rahman would be favoured if they decide to compete
Heavy
Pano Tiatio if he enters and Teifer Rigaud look the best at this weight
Super heavy
John Luna moves up to face the really big boys but I think he can do it
although the likes of Elijah Grady will have different ideas
SELECTIONS
48 NICO HERNANDEZ alt P Ramires
52 SHAKUR STEVENSON alt A Vargas if absent T Arzeno
56 CARLOS BALDERAS alt F Martinez
60 MICHAEL NELSON alt K Davis
64 CHRISTIAN BERMUDEZ alt K Adric
69 ALEXIS ROCHA alt F Alvarado
75 JAZAVIAN PALMER alt C Conwell
81 ELVIS FIGUEROA if absent Furgan Raschke alt Sharif Rahman
91 PANO TIATIO alt T Rigaud
+91 JOHN LUNA alt E Grady

Junior
Trying to predict this is almost impossible with so few boxers having registered but here are mine
46KGS
Hawaiian Kawela Alcos looks the best of those registered but I expect California to mount a real challenge.Rafael Delgado,Anthony Reyes and Marc Castro are all useful.Florida could send Michael Guerrier and David Fecteau while Keyshawn Davis is another to consider in a very open looking weight
48KGS
I think this could come down to JO Champion Dylan Price and Oregon stand-out Szel Martinez. Both will compete and eight of my top ten at this weight have not confirmed they will appear. If present Jody Gauthier and Basil Nasser will be expected to do well.
50KGS
If he competes Daniel Gonzalez would be the hot favourite.Of those registered I like Freudis Rojas and Nick Sullivan while Aaron Morales would be a useful addition to the line up.
52KGS
Joseph Cuellar and Dominic Serna represent California and are my two picks against the field.Texan Elijah Dierkshide is an alternative should he enter
54KGS
Vergel Ortiz looks the likely winner if he enters but Victor Morales comes with a good reputation and could surprise.Californian Ryan Garcia would have a chance if he appears
57KGS
Devin Haney and Evan Sanchez were both winners of this tournament last year and draw permitting could contest the final.Texan Adolfo Alanis is another to consider
60KGS
New York have a strong duo in Steve Galeano and Nikita Abably with Josue Vargas a possible third from there.Hopefully Charlie Sheehy will register as well
63KGS
Troy Isley is my idea of the winner although Myquan Williams and Brandun Lee would contest this should they enter
66KGS
Manuel Rodriguez has had a good year and can win this.Janelson Figueroa and Bryson Nuckles would be fine additions to the line up.
70KGS
Samuel Avila has registered whilst Joshua Le Paz and Jose Burgos have not and would figure prominently if they appear
75KGS
Akeem Mayle is for me a clear favourite
80KGS
For me this is wide open with Kashif Brown,Mario Hernandez and Skip Shannon all contenders
+80
Suray Mahmutic and Richard Torres both from California are the main contenders with Mahmutic moving up in weight .
SELECTIONS
46 Rafael Delgado if absent K Alcos
48 Szel Martinez alt D Price
50 Daniel Gonzalez if absent N Sullivan
52 Joseph Cuellar alt D Serna
54 Vergel Ortiz alt V Morales
57 Devin Haney alt E Sanchez
60 Charlie Sheehy if absent N Abably
63 Troy Isley alt M Williams/B Lee
66 Manuel Rodriguez alt J Figueroa/B Nuckles
70 Joshua Le Paz if absent J Burgos
75 Akeem Mayle alt J Baye
80 Kaseem Brown alt M Hernandez
+80 Suray Mahmutic alt R Torres

It appears sum kids are gonna do Silver Gloves instead of Jr Worlds. I'm not sure if everyone knows the importance of the Jr World tournaments. Mahmutovic is fighting at 176 not 176+

Scallum tell us how important are junior worlds. I don't understand how any jr tournament means more than any other tournament for kids. Please don't give that Olympic stuff. As far as I am concerned any kid tournament is just as important as long as these kids can afford to go to them, enjoy them, and do their best.

Because if you win the Jr World Tournament you get to represent team Usa in international Tournaments and automatically become a member of team Usa.You also will get to train at the Usa Olympic training center for weeks at a time with The best of the best Coaching Senor Pedro . On top of all that winning the Jr or Youth tournaments are the only tournaments that qualify boxers for The World Championships.

These tournaments do get to be taxing on the parents, Jr and Youth Worlds gets you way ,way more bang for the buck.

scallum said; "Jr and Youth Worlds gets you way ,way more bang for the buck." now if this is true why do they have tournaments in the same month? Why don't they do better planning for our kids and change their tournament to another month they know silver gloves has always been in january. USA in my opinion is trying to kill silver gloves which is a tournament for all of this age kids from the best to anyone else that makes it there. To me these tournaments are good for our kids but don't try to ruin one by doing another at the same time.

Actually the Sliver Gloves is from November to February. Usa boxing isn't trying to ruin Silver Gloves, Usa boxing is being proactive in getting its teams identity Asap and get the kids in Training camp asap. Look at the results over the past year and its only gonna get better

As an outsider it does seem daft to have two big competitions at about the same time especially when there are so few.
Cost much be a big problem for some parents.

It makes the parents have to pick and choose, just too costly to do both and in sum.cases it's impossible to do both because of the dates and logistics

Scallum what results are you talking about I haven't seen any results for USA due to these tournaments such as Medals?? show me where our kids are being treated fair at these so called world games and tournaments and Olympics. I am totally for these tournaments but lets be fair with rules and judging! Show respect for the real athelics that fight their hearts out and win but won't get the decisions and I mean first in the USA and then especilly at the world level. Remember what AIBA does if your not known as an ellite AIBA fighter u don't stand a chance with the judges and that is what we need to teach our kids. Because they might leave a tournament with out a paper win like your kid will be facing soon if he hasn't already seen this type of judging.
The problem is not the kids or tournaments the problem is the Adults that run these programs and I don't mean the coaches or trainers either.

Jr and Youth Usa Teams won 4 or 5 gold medals ,at least 1 Silver ,1 bronze and Several kids just missed out on several Bronze Medals at The World Championships in 2013. All this under the Training on Senor Pedro. Add the 2 Aiba boxers of the year in 2013. Things are looking up for Usa boxing. Plus on Jr Team like 3 kids in top 10 of World Rankings 2014

Well just in my opinion, I am taking a female out to Reno because the last two years the silver gloves have not shown any respect toward females. Yes I know they let them have the championships at the ringside tournament but it was not the same as the males. This tournament gives equal opportunity to male and female

Aren't both tournaments run by USA boxing? Silver Gloves females need to be included.

Silver gloves is sanctioned by USA boxing but they are are third party and get to "make their own rules" on some things. So the males get to compete at state, regional and national level and females only at a national invitational tournament at a different time and location from the males. They did it at the exact same time as ringside tournament and at same place so it leaves females only getting to compete at one of those events
