Been a boxer seems to work against you in these situations. The same thing happened with Wharton. They just think "we're not going to beat him in a fight, so..."

Before I moved up there I thought gangsters were only in films yet less than a week after moving up there I had a gun pointed at me and also saw a lot of things up there what you wouldn't believe true. It's a hard hard town but if what I was told is true than it was more a case of people thinking they're above the law just like loads up there do

I reckon they may twin town Hartlepool and Doncaster, they seem very similar places.
Palooka, I grew up in donny as you know. Tough place was always getting kicked in by older lads. sometimes got pissed on too. Trouble was I never had an older brother only a couple of younger ones so took a few kick ins trying to protect them too. I got kicked in when I was around 11 years old by a 40 odd year old bloke! smacked my face in, but as it was a tough pit village my dad could not go to the police for obvious reasons. I was jumped on when I was around 10 or 11 by a 15 year old lad, I said something to his sister that upset her, well boom, I got a fcuking kick in. Had to be helped home by a lorry driver who stopped to pull the fornicator off me.

It was real tough we ended up moving up North because my dads mate got robbed by some 'travellers', had his house broken into and was robbed at knife point. My dads mate recognised one of the 'kids' and they went around to his house as a lot of money was stolen, my dads mate was an antiques dealer. Well it kicked off and they threatened my dad. At the time my old man worked at International Harvesters in Donny so he made a load of pointers and hid some under his pillow and around the house. It got too bad so we had to move out of Donny. It was in everyones blood, my kid brother grew up with sticky fingers and ended up mixing with the wrong crowd, robbing to make a few quid here and there. Ended up inside and was taken out in a wooden box. It was all covered up, I remember at the inquest no one heard anything. The fcuking slimey prison governor walked away clean. To this day (died in 89) dont know the real facts, In court no one would talk.

Its chilling when you live on the wrong side of the fence, born with a wooden spoon in your mouth. Kids in the late 70's and early 80's didnt fight with knives and guns, you generally got a kick in and a slap each time you passed them on the street, there was no such thing a gun crime or drugs even. I remember back in the very early 80's and we knew this kid who was around 20ish, he was a heroin addict and he was like a celebrity! When we saw him we used to say 'there goes that drug addict' we didnt even know what a drug addict was, but back then he was the only one I ever knew, so he was like a film star.

Ive come from the rough side and seen the rough, i used to go to school in cut down wellies for Christ sake! Roaming the street collecting fag ends to sell to your dad. Being a bookies runner at the age of 8 or 9. Dragging my dad out of the welfare on a Friday afternoon, payday, incase he spent the whole wage packet. It was rough but not as deep as it is now. I

He was fifty odd, most of his fights were imaginary and his opponent was about four stone heavier and 20 years old(looked 30).

Very nasty. A clearly pre- meditated murder and the headlines today talking of life means life sentences.

What started the dispute in the first place? Why did Mark beat the lads up?

It'll all (or most) come out in court I'd have imagined; loss of face is a massive thing to some people and they'll do anything to get it back; a horrible end to a life and the 4 who are arrested will probably do over 60 years in the nick over it and the family of Denton miss him forever and the killers family will be in misery for decades; what a terrible waste.

I could understand somebody wanting to do something like this, if the person in question was a bully, or had done something outrageous or that they just could not get over, and they considered the person unassailable (unbeatable) or not even sorry for whatever they had done. But to go ahead and do it??
Probably the full story, with both sides, won't come out. I sense that this situation was probably avoidable with a few words, before it became this utter mess - and waste.

possibly. A chap from Middlesbrough was attacked by a couple of brothers with a samurai sword too a few years ago. Ex-boxer. They didn't feel the odds were stacked evenly enough apparently. People should be able to get done for owning this type of thing, never mind that "decorative ornament" b*llocks.

Its generally all drug related (not saying this is though) all this effing crime. Bout time the government did some action or got real about the crime thats being committed in this country, start to listen to the public and not Brussels. Another sad loss and another youngster behind bars, but it effects more than the 2 people here involved. My brother was killed in prison some 25 years ago aged 18 and the effects last a life time. A man has been killed and left loved ones suffering. A man has killed and left a family devastated. But he will be home before he is 27.

We need a revolution

i think the problem with the majority of fellas these days is the fact, if you ain't a hard nut your treated like a mug.most can't have a straightener so you need to use a tool or blade to win.theres a bit of kudos in being known as a nutter and prison really ain't as hard as it should be.millions of kids think they're gangsters and just don't give a shite.

That may be a symptom of the problem in places like Hartlepool, Johnny, but it's not THE problem.

Maybe so. I'm just just saying that's the mindset of a lot of these planks in London. Much the same all over Britain.

Live by the sword die by the sword.

You get many lads that are tasty & start giving out hiding a & get carried away with it & then believe they are untouchable & can beat anyone up & there's quite a lot of oeople who won't come second best & will take your life. I don't know what marks case was but it's very sad & horrific.
