I like Groves but how can you be fighter of the year for beating a couple of nobodies and then getting stopped? He's had 6 decent rounds all year. In comparison Froch beat him and Kessler this year, Brook beat carson jones to show huge improvement and smashed Senchenko, Fury beat steve cunningham, Chisora beat Pala, Gerber, Malik Scott and the other fella, Degale had a better year than groves in reality.

Why dont they just call it the feel sorry for him award, he didnt win and most think he was about to be stopped even if the ref hadnt called it early.

Not a lot ... George took the p*ss/mocked me in what I considered a particularly nasty way ... I told him to **** off ... I was totally delighted Groves did not pursue the matter

As for what George is like ... they are my thoughts only ... I truly think he is a ****.

I know Groves alluded to the fact that he felt Booth was very money and fame hungry in one interview with sky.

I would not be surprised to hear that the reason why both Groves and Price left Booth was over financial and priority issues.

Haye will always be number one at Hayemaker. Booth is probably used to generous compensation at this stage and is most likely very well off, so doesn't need to keep working with other fighters. Because of that he can name his price and be rigid with it.

I think there are plenty of other trainers out there who are better proven than Booth, cheaper & willing to give a higher priority to their fighter than Booth is.

Well hasn't it been reported that Booth is due to receive 25% of Groves's purses until January 2015?

I imagine there isn't a standard % and that these thing are negotiated on a case by case basis.

Also remember Graham took Hatton to court for unpaid wages on the basis that he expected to receive 10% of Hatton's purses.

Booth has made an absolute fortune out of boxing, despite having a tiny stable of fighters. So he obviously knows how to play the game. Fall-outs between boxers and managers/trainers often come down to the fighter not properly understanding percentages.

Point is that fees to trainers/managers/promoters are usually negotiated and not usually standard. The promoter will usually call most of the financial shots until a fighter reaches a certain level - the trend at the moment after that is for the fighter to either solely or co-promote. Trainers and managers will often go from receiving fixed % of purses to receiving fixed amounts. The bigger the fighter, the more they can call the shots. Regarding Booth - my impression is that he felt Groves/Price needed him more than he needed them, and so felt in a position to name his price.

With regards to Adam ... I do not have to conform to anything ... Adam Booth for me is outstanding at what he does for his fighters, from negoitiating the best possible deal for future fights to actually training them.

As I stated on another thread when we were in the training camp prior to the first postponement, Adam was away from the gym for a couple of days ... and those days for me things were flat, but, when he walked back into the gym there was a big lift in peoples moods from the fighters to the remainder of the team - thats not me grovelling as I have nothing to grovel for, its just a plain and simple fact.

As far as the Booth/Groves situation - its sad they are not working together, I am totally convinced Booth is the right man for the job in regards to getting the very best out of Groves, in and out of the ring.

Groves lost in his big fight. Don't see how he can be fighter of the year.

Because he got jobbed! He clearly had Froch's number and would be a strong favourite to do him in a rematch if it ever comes off.

watched the fight properly in full when I was back over Christmas and Groves' stock has gone up massively for me. However, while I believe the stoppage was dreadfully wrong and premature, I'm at a complete loss as to how you can claim he clearly had Froch's number, given Froch was looking the more likely to win at the point the intervention was made? A fighter having the other's 'number' would indicate a complete dominance whereas the fight I saw saw George on top in the early rounds but with Carl taking over from the 7th onwards.

To me Groves' shots were troubling Froch far less in the later rounds. Groves was great, but Froch had him. No kind of shame in that either, doesn't make Groves any less good, but Froch is a beast.

The more I watch it the more convinced I am. In fact when the emotion died down and people watched it again, they generally felt more comfortable with the result than on the night. There was significant bandwagon jumping from a lot initially.

Disappointing to see groves getting fighter of the year, outside of a bunch of sympathy votes because of his unfortunate stoppage loss I really don't get it. Seems like a lot of people are eager for this guy to succeed and prepared to overlook the obvious....

If you want to give it to someone on achievement, you gotta give it to Froch. He beat Kessler and then backed that up with a tough win over Groves. If you want to give it to someone based on something above and beyond just the win and loss column then surely you have to give it to Murray. Going to Argentina and putting in the type of performance he did against Martinez is much more impressive than out boxing Froch for 5 or 6 rounds.
