He wants to know the "worse" book you read.

I don't think it can compete with Meldrick Taylor's.

I'd like to lend that from you please; I've got the 'Confuse The Enemy' biography of D'Amato I could lend you in return.

Yeah sure, so long as I get it back. I've mislaid it (if you see Orb towers you'd know why) but should be able to locate it.

I need to have a sift through the boxing collection, might have some other gems.

Thank you, you'll get it back; I've been intrigued since you quoted bits on a thread a few years ago. I'll meet you at warmsworth and please PM me when you find it out :TU:

Don King ripped me off.... But in the next sentence remarks how he never read the contract. Well he didn't rip you off then! If he's fulfilling the obligation of a contract you were too effing thick to read. It's made me have less and less sympathy for mike.

He goes on about how ghetto he is even at 40 when he'd been out of Brownsville for 28 years!! He was only 'street' cos he chose to be.
SPOT ON.

If there was a championship belt for feeling sorry yourself then Mike Tyson would have it. I have always thought the same with him. Goes on and on about being from the street; he lived in a big house from the age of 13. That bloke has made hundreds of millions of £s yet you'd think from the way he goes on he's still a slum dog kid. I'm sure he did have it rough in his childhood. But so has billions of others. All he does is moan.
He also thinks some of his performances were better than they actually were. Bigs up his competition as if Botha, saverse etc were killers. In fact the more u think about it, he was SO indulged throughout his life/career. In prison, by cus, by promoters, by women, by commissions, by refs.... and still feels they were all out to get him. 'They just want my money.....' Duh, u r in the boxing business, they aren't putting a gun to ur head. Go drive a cab if it's so hard.

Lot more to it than that. It's certainly a stream of something, nonsensical ramblings from a mad man, in my view.

Speaking of Cus, Mickey out of Rocky V used some of his sayings while talking to Rocky!

Yeah me too, it's very dated like you say. If it was a choice between Heston and Smith version. Charlie every time.

I'm reading this at the moment, just up to the 2nd Holyfield fight. Hopefully this book will put to bed the nonsense that Tyson would have been the best ever if Cus didn't die / he didn't leave Rooney (who is barely mentioned at all). Fact is he just wasn't cut out to be: lack of discipline, too much booze / drugs, spending a lot of his career not wanting to box, low self-esteem etc etc

Some of his facts around Holyfield are way off too, apparently Bobby Czyz beat the sh1t out of him before getting stopped in the 10th?????? Tyson says he doesn't remember anything from round 2 of the first fight and realised only during fight 2 that it was because he was getting butted, yet before the rematch his camp had complained about the referee for allowing head butts. Despite his loss of memory he also describes how he was nearly KOd by a butt in the 7th. I remember this incident very clearly as Tyson almost ran head first into Holyfield in what I thought was an attempt to get out of the fight. He also claims that he is embarrassed by how he talked to his opponents and being ashamed of what he said about Biggs crying, yet he says he caught Holy in the first round of their first fight and he 'screamed'.

All that said I am enjoying the book and think it does give a real insight into Tyson's psyche. He remains a fascinating and contradictory character.

I think Tyson would have been much better as a boxer if he had been discovered by a manager who was not as old as Cus. Cus seemed to have so many hang ups as in the book and was a weird old man. Sure Cus shaped Tyson to be his kind of fighter but If Emmanual Steward had found him at 13 or Goosen Im sure Tyson would have been a greater fighter. Tyson came around when the division was array with shite so would have still been undisputed champion. Saying that once he found drugs and women hell knows if anyone could have kept him on the straight and narrow. Tyson was a fool, he had the world at his feet and would have ruled the world longer if he wasnt such an asshole.

I love in the book however were he is always kicking the shit out of Don King, would loved to have seen that relationship, King was Tysons bitch for sure!
