What punches in any fight should have knocked a fighter out but didn't?

Barkley hit Duran with a hook in the eighth or ninth round that made his head do an exorcist spin and he immediately fired back.

Shavers right hand on Ali just before the bell in round two was as hard as anyone has ever been hit without going down.

I think it's was the 2nd round of Monzon vs Valdez that Valdez smashed Carlos with a right, it was devastating but only hurt Monzon for a second.

I just watched Round 2 of Ali vs Shavers. Shavers lands about 3 or 4 big right hand bombs on Ali in the 2nd round, I think the one you're referring to that as you once said "Would've dropped an elephant" is somewhere around the 2:10 or 2:15 part of the round.

Shavers definitely lands more than a few thudding right hands in that one though.

Roy 'Tiger' Williams hit Earnie Shavers with bombs.

Earnie, who was 'out-on-his-feet' would not go down.

Did Earnie have a weak chin................'NO'
That 10th round of Shavers vs Tiger Williams is probably the most exhausted I've ever seen two men look while still slugging away at each other. It's dramatic as hell to watch

Bruno twatted McCall in the 2nd round and made his legs dip. Considering McCall is still active now, that's the closest anyone has ever come to flooring Oliver.

The uppercut that Lewis landed on Vitali in the 3rd IIRC was a killer, it made a sonic boom when it hit home.

Il Duce was telling me the other day at the barber shop, that those punches that Shavers landed on Ali in the second round were just little taps, and should not be considered as a test.

Frazier hit Ali with a hook in the 6th (I think) in Manila. Sounded like a the crack of a rifle shot. Read somewhere that Dundee called it the hardest punch he ever saw Ali take.

i think the right hand lewis took against vitali
is worth being mentioned.

with all the left hooks ali took from joe frazier
in the FOTC you could floor the entire top ten
in today's hw ranking.

The punch that Hearns rocked Hagler for about 2 seconds. Hagler inhumanly shook it off.

In the new Ring mag, Foreman makes a point that Ali's chin was the the best he'd ever seen.

Bennie Briscoe badly stunned Carlos Monzon in the 9th round of their title contest. But Monzon recovered quickly and back in control by the end of the round.

I was never a fan of the self-styled and appointed Lord of Brighton.....but Eubank got cracked by some of the best in the business and I usually ended the evening cursing the fact that he'd won, but grudingly respecting him as well.

What he stood up to against Benn in their first fight remains border-line epic in my opinion (I watched the fight the other night and Benn was venomous) and Mike Watson hit him bang on in their second, traumatic fight as well.

Eubank often had to take a lot of shots in his fights and the fact that he got up from getting caught so early and absolutely flush against a pre-hand problem Calzaghe and simply shook himself down and gave Joe a quick nod always impressed me hugely. The same chin proved more than capable against the much bigger and always seriously bombing Carl Thompson.

Eubank - love him or loathe him - had the kind of chin that allowed him to stay in a fight and recover so fully and quickly that he often was able to beat guys who were performing better than him on the night.

George Chuvalo also deserves a mention....an immoveable object who faced an entire generation of elite, golden era heavyweights but invariably ended the fight on his feet, defiant and unbowed. Very, very tough dude indeed and the kind of chin that should be kept for medical science.

I also remember Corrie Sanders nailing Vitali K with a bomb as well as in the third round of their fight too.

Victor Callejas landing a vicious left uppercut on Fenech in the 1st round, and one more in the 3rd. Fenech walked right through them.
