Stalker might not of signed with Coldwell
Good signing for Dave Coldwell, he's got Tom Stalker from Matchroom. After arm surgery in the summer Stalkers contract had expired and looks like Matchroom gave him the option to move on.
Stalker hasn't lit up the pro's so far, but with his injury sorted and a new lease of life it could be the start of a good year for him. I'm sure Dave Coldwell will keep him busy, and Tom could be one of those slow burners that comes into his own when stepping up in class.

Re: Stalker signs with Coldwell
I don't think he has.
It was a double-press release that Stalker has been released, and that Matchroom would be working with Coldwell to develop Robbie Davis Jr.

It would make sense for Matchroom to keep Stalker, he is a great ticket seller.

Tom hasn't signed with Coldwell.
Matchroom have parted ways with Stalker and they will be joining up with Coldwell to help with Robbie Davies.

Re: Stalker signs with Coldwell
Box rec seems to indicate that Stalker's nickname is 'The Captain', which is obviously based on his role in the Olympics.
May I suggest that the first move for Coldwell should be to rename him to Tom 'He's behind you' Stalker.

Re: Stalker signs with Coldwell
is it not FW he signed with
Re: Stalker signs with Coldwell
Seems a fair move by both parties. Not surprised to see that Hearn wants piece of he Robbie Davies jr action. Big following and a decent boxer stepped up a level last time out and looked classy in parts but could also do with sticking to his boxing at times.
Re: Stalker might not of signed with Coldwell
I'd heard FW was signing Stalker? Who ever he is with he needs to keep churning out the wins at his age to have a decent dig at the pros. Good luck to him anyways
Re: Stalker signs with Coldwell
allegedly did suggest he'd be revealing an "interesting signing" at today's press conference at Aintree.sweetscience wrote:is it not FW he signed with

I think it will be FW

Stalker leaving Matchroom seems strange. Less than 24 hours ago Eddie Hearn said the following:
“I'm delighted to welcome Ricky Boylan to the team,” said Hearn. “He is an exciting young fighter and one of the biggest ticket sellers in the country. We are investing in the 140lb division here and have already signed the British Champion Darren Hamilton who will defend against Curtis Woodhouse in Hull on February 22. We have big plans for Olympic captain Tom Stalker as well as Prizefighter champion Chris Jenkins and now Ricky joins that mix”

Yeah that does seem odd. Eddie will clarify in an interview with Kuggie for sure.

From the outside looking in, I think it would be career suicide for Stalker to leave Matchroom. He is 30 this summer and has left it far too late to turn pro. The best chance he has in this country is with Matchroom. He will get the opportunities if he does the business in the ring.
And no Eddie hasn't paid me to say that !

Fwank could get him a beating off Brad Saunders for the British this year?JimJim2009 wrote:From the outside looking in, I think it would be career suicide for Stalker to leave Matchroom. Re: Stalker might not of signed with Coldwell
The bar has been set pretty high by GB team mates/stablemates like Callum Smith, Kal Yafai, Anthony Joshua and Luke Campbell...
Whether this is why Matchroom called it a day, or whether Stalker has been offered money elsewhere ?
But one thing I'm sure of is that he boxed five times in 2013 (3 times on his doorstep) and I unfortunately cannot see him boxing five more times under another outfit in 2014, be it FW or Sauerland (David Price).
I wish him well, Tom seems a really good guy on Ringside and on the Team GB programs.

“Me and Tom Stalker will probably never happen” suggests Saunders about his old amateur team-mate. Liverpool’s Stalker also turned pro late after a stellar amateur career and is currently 5-0 in his own campaign.
“I talk to Tom all the time; we’ve been around the world together and did that for eight years. I would never bad mouth him in any way as he’s a good guy. The fight would only ever make sense if we both won major titles and the money on offer was big…down the line it may make sense but for now lets all just build ourselves up like we have been doing.”

Well that's that then. Stalker will have to take the secondary route because Fwank really rates Brad. I do too.G0mez wrote:mickey1975 wrote: Fwank could get him a beating off Brad Saunders for the British this year?

Just heard the same hes signed for warren. Why would anybody want to leave matchroom for warren? I though most fighters preferred to fight more not less.

Its all very well people praising matchroom but they pay in real money, on time, and keep you boxing regularly. This does not cater for anyone who wants to be paid in IOU's, fight every blue moon, and get sued. This creates a gap in the market and you can't blame a rival promoter for stepping in to fill the void.
