Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
Billy Joe's off the bill with a hand injury, but he's sparring tomorrow, I suspect he enjoyed Christmas a little too much and was struggling with the weight a bit. The addition of the Fury's is a welcome boost though. Nothing confirmed about Walsh-Sykes yet, so I'll hold off on that one.
Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
Walsh v Sykes on the bill, plus Bradley Skeete v Vivian Harris. And Hughie Fury
Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
That's a big step up for Skeete, Harris isn't what he once was, but he's still a tough opponent.gobbles wrote:Walsh v Sykes on the bill, plus Bradley Skeete v Vivian Harris. And Hughie Fury

Won his last two and beat Danny O'Connor last time out, who's a decent fighter, although the scorecards were bizarre, 99-91, 96-94 and 90-100.gobbles wrote:Harris is shot to pieces but it's a great nameexpe wrote:That's a big step up for Skeete, Harris isn't what he once was, but he's still a tough opponent.gobbles wrote:Walsh v Sykes on the bill, plus Bradley Skeete v Vivian Harris. Sykes is saying it's off on his Facebook page. Put back to April due to an injury to Walsh.gobbles wrote:Walsh v Sykes on the bill, plus Bradley Skeete v Vivian Harris. And Hughie Fury

Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
Its a step in the right direction for a bill that was imploding in spectacular fashion and I imagine that is the precise reason why Fwank has jumped the gun and made this announcement before its actually signed. I also suspect that this practice of announcements before formal agreements are signed has an upside to it - it ties people into things, unless they have the bottle to stand up to him (which Peter Fury has partly done today).
I guess on the night we'll see Tyson Fury, Derek Chisora and Hughie Fury in one-sided fights but its still a vast improvement on the bill as it stood at the start of the week.
I genuinely hope for Fwank's sake that it holds together, if the Fury's walk away from this, he will never live it down.

Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
The show, as advertised at the outset, hasn't just fallen apart, it's imploded. But full credit to Fwank for putting out all the stops to plug the gaps. Lets be honest, on the night its knockover jobs for Chisora, Fury, Fury and Stalker, whereas Sykes vs Walsh, Chisora vs "meaningful opponent", Billy Joe Saunders defending his British & Commonwealth titles and Cleverley vs Ammann were better fights. I realise you can't say for definite in the case of Chisora and Saunders as the the outset the opponents weren't known but Fwank was talking of a significant opponent for Chisora, and for Saunders to be defending both his titles, the opponent had to be decent - you wouldn't get a last minute import if the British & Commonwealth titles were on the line.1 nut wrote:The big man fury and stalker joining , not falling apart now
What I'm saying is, if you rate the show by the criteria of "whatever we get served up come fightnight, it will be alright" then no it doesn't look like the show has fallen apart. If you go by the fights the show was meant to have on, it has collapsed.
And lest we forget, we have 5 weeks to go until the show. But fingers crossed, I will be glued to the telly all night long and I do want it to be good. Keep up the good work Frank

It fell apart, but Fwank rebuilt it, I just hope he remembered to dig the foundations this time. I don't think Warren can be blamed about Saunders pulling out though, he has a hand injury, but he's still sparringJimJim2009 wrote:The show, as advertised at the outset, hasn't just fallen apart, it's imploded. Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
Conquest vs Ammann has been removed from the Copperbox show and is going on at the York Hall a week later. This wasn't part of the original show's line-up, I think it was added when Cleverley vs Ammann fell through.

Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
And now Chisora's opponent has pulled out !!!
The collapse of the original bill is now complete. Remember, it was billed as having Walsh vs Sykes, Cleverley vs Ammann, plus Saunders defending his British and Commonwealth titles, and Chisora defending his European heavyweight title. All four main fights have gone txts up.
I predict that on the night, the European heavyweight title will not be on the line. They will get a soft touch and the intercontinental belts will be up for grabs.
The repair job on this bill may yet prove to be adequate - it will be good to see the Fury's in action, and on the same bill as Chisora. I guess they'll all have knockover jobs though.

Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
Three weeks to go and the only title fight remaining of the original line up is Buglioni vs TBA for the WBO European belt. Turns out Buglioni is facing a feather-fisted Italian middleweight who's lost nine times. It sounded better when it was just TBA !
When this show was announced, there were five title fights.
Chisora's defence of the European heavyweight title won't be happening.
Saunders defending his British & Commonwealth middleweight championships won't be happening.
Cleverley vs Ammann for the Commonwealth cruiserweight championship fell through.
Skeete won't be defending his English welterweight championship.
Walsh vs Sykes for the British & Commonwealth super featherweight championships has fallen through too.
Copperbox 2 fell apart, Copperbox 3 imploded. Credit where it's due though, getting the Fury's on the bill is impressive, and getting Vivian Harris over for Skeete is a good bit of match making. Skeete was good against Lynes and last October Harris beat a 23-1 opponent so there's maybe life left in him yet. Three weeks to go yet though, so I would expect the show to undergo further changes. Buncey cast doubt on Hughie Fury's inclusion on the bill during Saturday's live broadcast so that's doubtful.
I started this thread before a single one of the main five title fights had fallen through, out of interest really, to monitor how well the show would hold together. At the risk of sounding daft Fwank might be better putting the following on his fight posters;
"A night of championship boxing at the Copperbox. Fxxk knows who'll be fighting who as we're 8 weeks out but I am a promoter with some clout, and with some good fighters, and on the night you'll get the very best that I can put together. I can't say fairer than that"

I think the card now is better than it was when first announced. Still, as you say Jim, plenty of time for that to change

Re: Watching the next Copperbox show fall apart
I was wondering about that myself ! I guess Fury will poleaxe the South American easily, but Chisora/Johnson might be more competitive. Johnson may have lost on the road recently but he's definitely a cut above the last two opponents Delboy has faced. Skeete vs Harris looks like a distance fight, I'm looking forward to that. Six months ago you wouldn't have thought Skeete would get a win over a former world champ.chad wrote:I think the card now is better than it was when first announced. Real shame Sykes vs Walsh isn't happening though, that has got fight of the year written all over it.
They might as well say Elvis is on the bill as say Nathan Cleverly is fighting... no doubt he will make a comeback at some point but its not credible to say he's on a bill anymore, with all his withdrawals.
If Fury or Chisora withdraw, the show's in bad trouble again. I think those two are going to provide a lot of headlines and entertainment in the build up, and on the night. If Fwank can make Fury vs Chisora for the European title and WBO eliminator in the summer, that is good work for a British promoter to actually make it happen.
