The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life

Post by elmersalsa »

These to me, are the MOST COMPLETE FIGHTERS that I have ever seen in my lifetime:
1. Sugar Ray Leonard
2. Roberto Duran
3. Salvador Sanchez
4. Eusebio Pedroza
5. Marvin Hagler
6. Mike McCallum
7. Floyd Mayweather, Jr
8. Miguel "Happy" Lora
9. Evander Holyfield
10. Meldrick Taylor

Who are yours? These guys above had everything. There may be someone that I have missed off the bat, but to my memory, I have not seen more complete fighters than these ten here.

Il Duce wrote:Antonio 'Kid Pambele' Cervantes

Even they way he threw his bout against Wilfred Benitez in March 1976 was 'Masterful'.
 Face it, Duce. Cervantes just couldn't handle the defensive cuties.

#1- Roberto Duran
#2- Pernell Whitaker
#3- Sugar Ray Leonard
#4- Wilfred Benetiz
#5- Salvador Sanchez
#6- Larry Holmes
#7- Juan Manual Marquez
#8- Manny Pacquia
#9- Floyd Mayweather Jr.
#10- Bernard Hopkins
#11- Evander Holyfield
#12- Alexis Arguello
#13- Julio Cesar Chavez
#14- Aaron Pryor
#15- George Foreman (power, defense, toughness, saavy etc. in comeback)

Honorable Mentions:

Vladimir Klitschko; never seen a heavyweight of that size, be that precise and skillful and so dominate since Lennox Lewis (ten years ago) and is coming up on tying Holmes' record for second most collective title defenses. Whether we like him or not and blame weakness of era, this guy is approaching plausible top ten worthiness (imho he's already there, if not top fifteen).

Oh how I wish this was true.....if only........I genuinely admire Cervantes........thankfully Il Duce mixes in a bit of fiction that we call can find ourselves entertained by.....even if misleading ourselves in the process.

There was NO deception on that day.

But I admit...for ME it makes for a wonderful read.

But Cervantes was indeed a complete fighter....even if he didn't quite turn in a good enough performance to win that particular go round.

:TU: Yeah, Curry was a master in his prime, there're some fantastic fighters mentioned and Wilfredo Gomez has to be up there at Super Bantam, Carlos Zarate at Bantam was superb and Ricardo Lopez was a truely exceptional boxer - all could box, counter and punch and all were game as hell.

Pep 8 stoppages in his last 9 fights before the plane crash.

Gene Tunney deserves a shout as well.
