Charley (Doc) Williams

Post by Palais »

We have two Doc Williams, wich could be the same boxer. It's a little strange, though.

Charley (Doc) Williams, Mahway, NJ, light heavyweight / 47-54 / 29-15-0
Doc Williams, no hometown entry, heavyweight / 50-54 / 6-3-0

According to RRB 1950, many of the "no hometown" heavyweight Doc's bouts belongs to Charley (Doc).

With a few exceptions;

1947-05-12 Curtis Sheppard, L KKO 1, Baltimore
1947-05-26/29 Fred McManus, W KO 1, Newark (Duoble entry?)
1947-12-05 Van McNutt, W 10, Worcester.

I moved all registrated bouts from "heavyweight Doc" to Charley (Doc)'s record, (confirmed by the RRB), except those from 1950 and on.

What puzzles me is a 12 round dec. loss against Georgie Johnson in Trenton, for the New Jersey State WELTERWEIGHT title?

In his next bout he fought a heavyweight match!

He fought Georgie Johnson three more times 51-52.

He EVEN fought former LIGHTWEIGHT Champ, Joe Brown, a KO loss in Sydney, AU, according to BoxRec.

Query; Do we in fact have two Doc Williams, one Ligth Heavy/Heavy and another in a lighter wieght division?

yt :-?
