Re: A poor Roy Jones Junior Imitation !
Had this been an actual 15 Round old school Title fight, Bute may have pulled it off. He definitely had Pascal hurt in the 12th... too little too late... Had Pascal to KO Bute in the 7th myself... Looked like Pascal had Bute in the 6th and 8th, but then backed off into "Roy Jones mode"... Pascal (and Jones) put themselves into a "corner" in the 12th... if there had been 3 more rounds... well... it would have been much more interesting wouldn't it...?
Pascal wouldn't "get away" with the "jump punches" and "double (two handed) punches" against Stevenson... That being said, not sure that Miseojeu is willing to cut their "meal ticket" in half doing a Pascal v Stevenson matchup... Kinda like the Promoters aren't willing to schedule Fury v Chisora right now... are they?
Perez v Takam draw was a fair result... great back stories in both corners, Perez took early rounds and Takam came on late... much as I hate draws I do believe that it was a fair result cos I was a bit disappointed for both fighters...

He let himself get hit in the head over and over late in the fight, that was clever.ttornado wrote:Idiotic would of been to punch himself out. He knows his stamina is lacking later in fights so he didn't throw as much.
His stamina is bad, but it isn't as bad as his laziness makes it seem.

I agree the letting Bute punch him in the head was idiotic. As well as calling for a rematch, that was also idiotic.Horse wrote:He let himself get hit in the head over and over late in the fight, that was clever.ttornado wrote:Idiotic would of been to punch himself out. But you are confusing laziness with energy conservation.
Re: A poor Roy Jones Junior Imitation !
I've watched the entire professional career of Jean Pascal (thanks to Daily Motion) and he is an out-and-out lazy bastard.
Big, strong and a bit of a dig on him yes - but 'outworking' is definitely NOT in his vocabulary, let alone his weaponry.

He conserved too much energy. I consider that lazy.ttornado wrote:But you are confusing laziness with energy conservation.

No, he should of been primarily trying to win.Horse wrote:He should have been trying to look good.ttornado wrote:But Bute looked a lot worse.
Trying to look good but gassing out, helps himself how?

Most fighters attempt this, but apparently you think Pascal is incapable of pulling it off. I think he could have done a lot better.

I placed bets on a Pascal stoppage win in the middle rounds, so I thought he was capable of better before the fight.Horse wrote:He should have been trying to look good and win as well.ttornado wrote:No, he should of been primarily trying to win.

But listening to what RJJ had to say, Pascal fought to plan.
If he had been more active he ran the risk of punching himself out.
The win is most important.

He got his win, but he looked like a chump getting it.

In your opinion, was the fight in general an embarrassment to boxing. Or was it just Pascal's performance.Horse wrote: It was an embarrassment to boxing.
Either way I disagree, Pascal saved the fight from an entertainment point of view. His clowning and weird tactic letting Bute punch him in the head, saved the the fight from having zero entertainment value.
Re: A poor Roy Jones Junior Imitation !
Pascal's work rate was miles better against Froch, since he has moved up in weight and put on extra pounds, he only works in short bursts and his stamina has gone down hill.ttornado wrote:In your opinion, was the fight in general an embarrassment to boxing. Re: A poor Roy Jones Junior Imitation !
I agree with this, my point was that Pascal knows this so adapted to incorporate periods of relative inactivity in later rounds.Anzi wrote:Pascal's work rate was miles better against Froch, since he has moved up in weight and put on extra pounds, he only works in short bursts and his stamina has gone down hill.
Horse considers this laziness, I call it adapting to your deficiencies and conserving energy.
Re: A poor Roy Jones Junior Imitation !
I suppose, pascal IS a bit older now, and he's had some very hard fights not to mention persistent shoulder injuries - AND on the night a RJJ ego stroking battle plan.
bute can be very classy when he puts shots together but he seems to have no confidence left.
I kind of blame bute, for not taking the initiative. if he had, we'd have seen pascal have to respond with firepower. the fight would've been better and both would've had exciting moments. the sad thing is bute was capable of doing what I've just said, and he did some of it in the final round.

I'm glad Bute lost. Could you image Bute vs Stevenson? Ouch!

Can't see George moving up to Light Heavy to fight Pascal tbh, more likely he would get a fight with Bute who can still make Super Middle. Personally I would rather see him fight Bika and pick up a world title.TopGun wrote:Pascal against Groves - good fight! Groves all day long

Re: A poor Roy Jones Junior Imitation !
Pascal always fights like that and it always makes me want to throw my remote through the TV.
In terms of talent Pascal appears to have it all yet he stands there watching and feinting (ala Shane Mosley) for 2 minutes and 40 seconds of the round, then he cuts loose for 20 seconds, then it’s back to watching and waiting.
Despite the fact that he only throws 4 minutes worth of punches over the course of the 36 minute fight he’s always absolutely blowing out of his arse come round 10.
It’s obvious to me that Pascal won’t beat anyone of any real consequence until he deals with the problem, if I was him I would drop some muscle mass and work relentlessly on improving my cardio.
Bute meanwhile is mentally in tatters, he was ultra cautious, prior to the Froch beat down he would have won this fight on workrate.
