enoughs enough get watt out of there
Another big fight ruined by watts moaning and whinging and another continuation of his strange and peculiar scoring of fights.is Jim losing the plot? He had Bute winning ? Oh my goodness! I had it 116-112 or 117-111 and so did the 3 judges. Watt needs to be retired to the studio or as I have said so often to sky but been ignored gave a main two man commentary team and confine watt to a brief 20 second end and start of round summation in the Larry merchant role.but for goodness sakes no more telecasts of watt ruining the fight with his non stop moaning
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
The fight was rubbish, Watt didn't ruin it.
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
A lot of Watt's comments were spot on although his scorecard was nowhere near the official version.
It was a terrible fight because Bute is finished and Pascal is a lazy Bast@rd.

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Watt was just scoring the fight as he saw it and on this occasion he's in the minority, that will happen now and again.
I don't see why so many people are blabbing on about this. Pascal was hardly putting on a masterclass.

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
I recorded the fight & after reading reports spoilers etc ha! I then watched the first rd then ffwd through the fight & hardly watched it as it wasn't entertaining & butes hesitating was annoying I've probably aTched 5 minutes of this fight & would happily now delete it
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
I like watt, i dont agree with what he says alot of the time but especially if im watching the boxing on my own early in the morning its like having someone to debate with. I end up talking back to him, like what the fornicate are you watching? or you're spot on there jim thats exactly what he needs to do.
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
I can't stand Watts commentating but scored the fight to Bute.. Really poor fight if I'm honest I had Bute winning most of the early rounds although very close and coming on strong 10,11 and 12. I think the judges may have preferred Pascals flurries to Bute's nervous Jab. I will never get that 36 minutes back another let down from a Sky boxing show. They really need to up their game commentators included!!
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Watt was right the fight was close, Bute finished the stronger to push the fight close, Pascal only fought in short bursts and gassed out towards the end.mugabi wrote:Another big fight ruined by watts moaning and whinging and another continuation of his strange and peculiar scoring of fights.is Jim losing the plot? If u 're read what I said slowly....Watt ruins the fight with his moaning and whinging over the action.and his scorecard has been out a lot recently.yes he is employed to give his opinion but surely it wasn't an informed one last night when he has Bute winning a fight most others had for Pascal by 5 points!!

Maybe most people got it wrong and Jim Watt got it right.mugabi wrote:Whoah so many posts so quickly like yours is the only opinion that matters.

Why is he wrong just because he has the unpopular opinion?

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
I agree with Mugabi in terms of Watt being repetitively negative whilst commentating. To be fair Watt did raise some valid points regarding the action but once he gets his teeth into something, he tends to say it over and over and over and over again. If that's his view, fair enough however I'd like him to try and purvey it in a manner that doesn't make me want to burst my eardrums with a rusty nail.
I agreed with Watt in terms of the fight being hard to score. Too many rounds where Bute was the come forward fighter, but was just pawing with a powder puff jab. In return Pascal backed up, ducked down, posed, swung wildly then had a short aggressive burst. I can't however see how Watt managed to score the fight to Bute. I got the impression once Watt had made his mind up that Pascal wasn't jumping on Bute early in the rounds he started to favour Bute's work instead.
Watt scored it as he saw it however the SKY website states:
"in the end it came as no surprise when the judges gave it to Pascal 116-112, 117-111 and 117-110"
But I specifically remember Watt and Bellew being surprised by the wide margin.
As a Scotsman I love Jim Watt. I'd prefer to see him in the studio rather than on commentary. I think he's better when he's had time to digest a fight and can consider his views and opinions before putting them out there live on TV.

Watt has seen better days and needs to retire.
He colours the action his way for the viewer - and often its a negative and peculiar view that he has.

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Watt's scoring is crap but he's a good analyst IMO. Reads fights better than a lot of the other analysts out there. I agree that his style can be grating though.
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Imho the 3rd man Larry merchant role role is best for watt as he gets time to consider his words while the round is progressing than does his 20 seconds at the end of the round and at the start.it's clear he is a greatly experienced pundit and we don't wanna lose that.equally a fresher voice/voices are needed in commentary.
Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
He's still the best British commentator.mugabi wrote:Imho the 3rd man Larry merchant role role is best for watt as he gets time to consider his words while the round is progressing than does his 20 seconds at the end of the round and at the start.it's clear he is a greatly experienced pundit and we don't wanna lose that.equally a fresher voice/voices are needed in commentary.
Those who would replace him would be worse.

Maybe he watched it in a broom cupboard in the sky studios.

Exactly, he nails his colours to the mast early on and sticks with his man throughout, usually ignoring any of the good work his opponent is putting inG0mez wrote:Watt has seen better days and needs to retire.

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Watt should have declined to score. It was like Haye vs Harrisson. Garbage fight.
Watt is a decent commentator at times, his excitement is genuine in a good fight - but his opinions and cards seem to be becoming increasingly erratic.

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Andy Clarke made a nice change from Nick Halling, although he does seem to make mistakes, for instances 'He's knocked his last 7 opponents out' - the fighter only had 6 ko's to his name(Gardiner v Alvarez).
Jim Watt is a passionate boxing fan and calls the fight how he sees it. He does get excited and he does seem to back one fighter over the other early on in a fight and sticks with it, even if the tide is turning, he tries to make a point back to his original point thus proving his point in a Jim Watt sorta-way.
Maybe you should try the version of 'Jim Watt Bingo' to play along with during a fight - 'He fancies the job', 'There's nothing behind these puncheese!', 'The gymnasium', or my personal favourite - 'Ah've got him up on mah card'.

Re: enoughs enough get watt out of there
Watt if he could just cut out the moaning and ocd like inability to shift emphasis in a fight may well still be the vest out there the scoring is the least of his sons and derives from his doing the first two.
In his favour his "leprechaun" like excitement is good, few can sense when a man is done like watt, and that taking a set position more often than not pans out like when Mosley slammed floyd in the second round and watt decided that was it,Mosley was done, very early on and that's exactly what happened.
Perhaps watt just needs to be told cut out the moaning and tall by over fancy ring entrances and be more considered in scoring.....perhaps it's as simple as his being told that is stopping g him being the best commentator on tv which he would be if he cut out the crap he is too prone to
