And to be clear im not in agreement with you, for the obvious reasons mentioned in previous threads which i cant be arsed to keep saying over and over again to ignorant people who think their own pompous view is all that counts, or the view theyve been spoon fed by the board at least..
Put it this way, you would have more of a problem with it if Promoters started calling their events Pro, which technically they are no less pro than a pro show is but hey thats another arguement, but thats the choice, they would either be called pro or semi pro, white collar refers to novices, and unlicensed doesnt really exist as most boxers have a license, just not a bbboc license.

even if two ex pro boxers fight its still not semi pro. in regards to the unlicensed not existing white collar comes under this as ther not licensed, unlicensed does exist because there are shows all over britain saying "white collar" "semi pro" were all fighters on these show's dont have a license and if they do id love to know who with cause the aba or bbofbc dont recognise these shows cause if they did they would be pro or amateur right??damianhucker1 wrote:Its been debated to death, Opinions wont change either way over night, starting a new thread wont change that.fasteddie wrote:if anyone post's anything on here saying "semi pro" then they obviously know f all about boxing, there is amateur boxing and professional boxing thats it. unlicensed and white collar are not semi pro. there is no such thing as semi pro boxing FACT!!!!

Re: semi pro
Your missing the point mate, The "Unlicensed" organisations generally do license their own lads, The white collar types dont i think but they are usually just raw novices doing a one off bout and dont claim to be anything else.. not being with ABA or BBBoC doesnt mean they dont have a license, but your blinkered view is that only a license issued by those count as a license when in all fairness the BBBoC are self appointed and therefore their license is no more valid than any other license.fasteddie wrote:even if two ex pro boxers fight its still not semi pro. in regards to the unlicensed not existing white collar comes under this as ther not licensed, unlicensed does exist because there are shows all over britain saying "white collar" "semi pro" were all fighters on these show's dont have a license and if they do id love to know who with cause the aba or bbofbc dont recognise these shows cause if they did they would be pro or amateur right??damianhucker1 wrote:Its been debated to death, Opinions wont change either way over night, starting a new thread wont change that.fasteddie wrote:if anyone post's anything on here saying "semi pro" then they obviously know f all about boxing, there is amateur boxing and professional boxing thats it. unlicensed and white collar are not semi pro. there is no such thing as semi pro boxing FACT!!!!

Re: semi pro
@damien,if they are not licensed by the aba or bbbofc then could you please inform me of the other licensed organisations in this country and i will stop looking through my "blinkered view". ufc is a promotional brand abit like top rank or golden boy in the boxing game all still licensed through whichever state they fight in i.e nevada state athletic commission etc. these "semi pro" events are organised by a person who hire's an arena hire's refree's,judge's etc then get a few "fighters" who have been in a gym for 4-6 weeks pair them up against a few proper tomatoe can's who couldnt beat an egg and call it semi pro,ive been to a few and they charge £30 a ticket? i could go to a proper sky show for that price and see at least a couple of well matched fights with proper "PRO'S". im not here to argue just dont see the point in calling it semi pro

See thats is where the waters get murky for me. Who's definition of "established organisation" do we go by? Yours could be different to the next man, and it will continue to be until an organisation becomes or is sworn in to be the statutory governing body in the UK. The Board have no more power legally than the Malta commission. In America they have state commissions that can enforce the law but until will follow suit or get a government that will acknowledge that these ABC bodies are a problem then it's a bit of a free-for-all. I honestly think it will take a fatality from a poorly organised event parading as the real thing for the powers that be to sit up and notice.fasteddie wrote:i genuine licensed boxer who is licensed by an established organisation, its abit like people who say they are world champion when they have won the WBF belt isnt it dont ya think??The Insider wrote:Just curious but what do you think constitutes towards being a pro boxer?fasteddie wrote:if anyone post's anything on here saying "semi pro" then they obviously know f all about boxing, there is amateur boxing and professional boxing thats it. unlicensed and white collar are not semi pro. there is no such thing as semi pro boxing FACT!!!!

We need the BBBofC to be written into the law as the statutory governing body here, I'm sure other governing bodies of other sports have that sort of distinction, so why not in boxing? The Insider wrote:See thats is where the waters get murky for me. If you are getting paid then you are a pro fighter, some of those shows in places in West
Virginia and Idaho are no better than semi-pro fights in the UK. It is all the same for me.

Re: semi pro
It seems like 90% of licensed pro fighters actually fit the semi-pro description! Plenty of pro fighters have jobs too.
It's like "semi-pro" footballers. I know people who play to a decent level and get £75 a game. They still work full time and would never describe themselves as 'a footballer'
I don't see why people seem to get their knickers in a twist about the pro-semi-pro-unlicensed thing. If people want to compete then let them. It's easier for most to go down the unlicensed/white collar route.

Re: semi pro
So the majority of "pro/licensed" boxers are semi pro then, only the champions i.e european, world champions are proper pro's then. Oh and the likes of david price, amir khan, frankie gavin who got a great deal when turning pro because they had a great amateur career so they earned the right to a good contract.

Re: semi pro
I've always felt the great shame of my country (USA) is that the 'semi-pro' circuit was essentially done away with by the 1960's, and any attempts to bring it back (i.e., Toughman, etc) has been ultimately squashed and regulated to death by state commissions. Semi-Pro boxing, Booth boxing, whatever you wish to call it, or want to dress it up as or promote it as being, was and still is a great concept and outlet for many a fighter who simply are not suited for either the amateur ring or professional ring--- or is a great springboard for amateurs, or great outlet for ex-pros to still earn a paycheck and in time get re-licensed (I can give numerous examples, such as Scott Gammer who lost his pro license, went on the White Collar circuit, then came back to the pros for a short while, etc).lillywhite14 wrote:It seems like 90% of licensed pro fighters actually fit the semi-pro description! I will always stand on the ground and position that nobody runs/owns boxing. Just because some organisation is formed and regulates matches--- they are only regulating matches under their banner. They do not ultimately control the sport or its competitors, nor do they control promoters. As long as people are following simple, common sense initiatives of having a ringside doctor, and are fighting with a mutually agreed upon system of rules, and people are getting paid, it is really no one's concern whether that is the BBBC or anyone else.

Re: semi pro
All the main "Unlicensed " organisations license their boxers, Ie EBF, OIBA, IBA etc, it might not involve the same rigours of the BBBoC but nonetheless its licensed, Might just be a case of filling in a form and paying a fee to then be a part of that organisation but its still that organisations version of a license, thats why what your saying is incorrect, or are you going to argue what constitutes a license ? isnt that essentially the same way you get a fishing license ? which is an official proper license is it not .... , lets face it, all a license is really is a bit of paper that says your allowed to do something.fasteddie wrote:@damien,if they are not licensed by the aba or bbbofc then could you please inform me of the other licensed organisations in this country and i will stop looking through my "blinkered view". ufc is a promotional brand abit like top rank or golden boy in the boxing game all still licensed through whichever state they fight in i.e nevada state athletic commission etc. these "semi pro" events are organised by a person who hire's an arena hire's refree's,judge's etc then get a few "fighters" who have been in a gym for 4-6 weeks pair them up against a few proper tomatoe can's who couldnt beat an egg and call it semi pro,ive been to a few and they charge £30 a ticket? i could go to a proper sky show for that price and see at least a couple of well matched fights with proper "PRO'S". im not here to argue just dont see the point in calling it semi pro
I cant answer for other promotions, but youll not find lads on my shows who have like you said "only done 4-6 weeks in the gym" .
What you will get is guys who are generally no less dedicated to training than their professional counterparts, some may not be any better than someone whos only spent a few weeks in the gym, but should they be told they cant do it ? have you ever played for a football team and been on the end of a 20-0 hammering or dished one out ? should they not be allowed to play football due to them not being very good ? or should they be allowed to have a 50/50 match with a similar level team in a organised league ?
Thats exactly what we do, we put the lesser lads against similar level lads and the better lads can test themselves against other descent lads.
My shows have approximately 25 bouts for £25, which in the main will have competitively matched bouts, i do all the matchmaking myself so i only have myself to blame if a bout is one sided, which i try to avoid, it happens from time to time of course, its the nature of the sport.
A perfect example is in the video below, this lad at the time had done around 5 or 6 unlicensed bouts, with no amateur experience, the lad he faced immediately before this bout (and stopped in 30 seconds) has now gone pro and is currently unbeaten, my lad is in red shorts (this isnt my show btw as i dont usually upload my lads bouts, this was in South Yorkshire ), weve told our lad hes not ready to turn pro (hes now had 10 bouts) but its difficult when hes seeing lesser lads turn pro and winning, but we want to get our lads to a good level, this lad could eventually turn pro and make an excellent journeyman as hes very difficult to actually hit, but we prefer to create good boxers, and he is typical of the standard of boxers on my shows.
The home crowd cheering on his opponent were quite noisy as youll hear, considering this venue only held 200 means im sure you can understand how much they enjoyed watching it, so when theres 20 odd bouts involving fighters like him, its worth the entry fee, especially when we also have better lads than him who we also havent turned pro yet and arent intending to in many cases.
Im not saying these are fantastic lads, but what im saying is when lads like this train 6 days per week and are learning their trade, beating lads who are winning in the pro's, i think calling themselves semi pro is fair. you can blatantly see hes spent more than just 4-6 weeks in a gym.. This bout was at Lightweight but long term hes probably a featherweight, hes 23 years old so not got a vast amount of time to improve, but long enough to tidy up, this is from boxing for 18 months at the time. I personally think its disrespectful to call lads like him just basic white collar boxers, i dont see a prob with it being called semi pro whatsoever, and this is pretty much the semi pro version of small hall boxing.
